Subject: How do you download at this link?

I couldn't see the main window in Mozilla, so I used IE. I clicked on a "free stuff" button, then clicked one of the two links below the window. A new window opens up for a split second, but then closes. I can't even see if there was anything in the window because it opens and closes in less time than it takes to blink. Anyone have any ideas on how to download from that site? I want that "Deathbringer Sword". I used to have it but lost it to a corrupt CD save.

I went there with MSIE and could not download anything because I setup GetRight to download automatically with IE. So I went there with Mozilla Firefox and I was able to download the item you mentioned. No problem. I don't see a new window when I get there but the menu looks like a Flash animation. You get a little flash then it goes black then it starts building the menus.

After that window pops up and disapears, you should see the windows download manager.

I don't get that window. I get a new page opening, but only for a split second.

With Mozilla-Firefox, I don't even see the flash window... just a black void.

I don't get that window. I get a new page opening, but only for a split second. That's IE savignthe file to your temp space. Take a look inside your browser cache and you'll likely see the zip file there. Try to right click and save as the file.

This is what I see with Mozilla-Firefox. What extension do I need to see the flash window?

This is a quick screen capture of what I get with IE. It really is only a split second. I didn't even know what was in the window until I took a screenshot because it opens and closes so fast. I don't get a download window at all

With Firefox, I can see the "adblock" little box. That is your problem. Disable adblock and you should get there fine.

I just checked on my "baseline" system, and I see the issue you're having. Because it's a flash interface, you can't right click to get the file, since the flash player is what you are right clicking, and the prgram (swf) is sending the file information to IE in a default state that causes IE to simply save it automatically, instead of giving you a window. Look in your IE cache, though. It should be there. Tols - internet options - settings - view files

Do you have a pop blocker running Acadia. The blank page just calls the file for download and then the file download pops up. I am using IE. I tried Firefox and got the black screen too, the Flash plugin doesn't seem to work properly with it.

Thank you Francemi :) That was the answer. Now I can download that sword again. It's my favourite one :) I don't know why I can't download there with IE. I was just at another site that I know of that is very slow so that I could see if IE was saving automatically. Screenshot attached. Also, in XP, where is the IE temporary internet files folder located? I went to windows and "Temp", but the files there didn't look like any temporary files I've ever seen. Plus there weren't very many... maybe 7.

I disabled it when I started to see I was having a problem. But it didn't help. > Quote - E in a default state that causes IE to simply save it automatically, instead of giving you a window. Look in your IE cache, though. It should be there. Tols - internet options - settings - view files

I did what you suggested, and there are no zip files saved there. By the way, where do I find that "temporary internet files" folder in XP? It's not in my Windows folder like it was with 98SE

Acadia, after I edited the previous message to give you the full path for my Internet files, I thought it might be best to tell you how I found them. ;o) In Internet Explorer, go to "Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/Settings" and it tells you the location of your Temporary Internet files for IE.

The wierd thing is that I can open their tutorials, but can't save their free stuff.

Thanks :) I like to access my folders through their path instead of through menus. I'm still stumped why I can view and download their tutorials, but I can't download and save any of their free items in IE. I looked in the temporary internet folder and there are no zip files in there at all. Just standard stuff like cookies and .jpg and .gif files.

I managed to save the file after I turned off adblock in Mozilla. Still can't save using IE there though. Odd. But I have the sword now, so I'm not going to worry about it. Thanks a bunch everyone :)

I have firefox, and I finally found it, lower left corner way over on the left. The stuff on the right is just descriptions.
Generally, if the cursor becomes the White Hand (no, not Saruman..;), you have the link. Sometimes, you can right-click and use 'Save Target As', which will help at times..already have the sword, and thanks for the link..;)

I get the quick close window as well but the download works in Slimbrowser/IE6. It also leaves an empty window open with the path to the file in the address bar. It does the same thing with the freebies here which is very handy--I can copy the address and use my DL manager to get the files. I dearly hate sites that use Flash and offer no alternative access method. I have Flash disabled by default.

Yes, I was clicking that button, but I couldn't download. Post 8 shows what was happening. A window opening and closing all in 1/10th of a second. I managed to download no problem in Firefox after I turned off adblock. However, I still can't download from there using IE, and I have popup OFF, and the box checked to let me pick whether to save or open. So something is buggy with my IE or something, which is another reason why I like Mozilla so much :)

SlimBrowser catches the window in a new tab whereas plain IE (6.0.2800.110615) just flashes it before displaying the normal download dialog. SB is still using the core IE components so I don't think it's an IE thing in particular. I'm running Windows 2000 Professional though. If you have XP SP2's built in popup blocker turned off then something else weird is going on so the script isn't running properly. If you're curious, you might try adding the site to your trusted zone and see what happens. For me, regular direct download links work the same in IE and SB. Links behind buttons, Flash menus etc. (including freestuff here) will usually trap the download page and open it in a new tab. I assume this is a quirk with SB since it apparently doesn't happen with Firefox's tabs. As I said, I actually like the effect since I can get the real location of those files.

Yes, I get that IE file download window at other sites....see my screenshot in post #12. However, it doesn't appear at this particular site. Instead I get what you see in post #8, only the window opens and closes in a 1/10th of a second.

Quote - plain IE (6.0.2800.110615) just flashes it before displaying the normal download dialog.

I get the flashing window, but I don't get the normal download dialogue window.

Anyway, I managed to download in Firefox-Mozilla after I turned off ad block. It's really strange because I never have problems downloading in IE before. It seems isolated to this site only. I usually use "right click and save as" when I can, but I know at Flash sites saving like that isn't possible. Message edited on: 12/25/2005 00:08

I really recommend Mozilla-Firefox. Give it a try. If you don't like it you can always uninstall it. After installing the browser, you can customize it to your needs by adding Extensions The extensions that I have that enhances the browser are: Adblock Tabbrowser Preferences IE View downTHEMall!
