Subject: Attn all Poser users - yes, YOU!

I had a wild idea... I'm a subscriber to a musicians site which was set up specifically for global collaborations. The guys there send tracks all over the net, adding their bits and producing finished songs. The results are generally very good and a high proportion are outstanding. There is a wealth of talent out there. Which got me thinking... Would any of you people be interested in doing a similar thing, but with an image instead of a piece of music? I have an image in mind, something I have wanted to make for a long time. Trouble is, it would take the best part of forever to get it all done. The image itself isn't too complex but there's a lot of stuff in there. In order for it to work, you'll have to accept my basic concept and allow me to put the final work together. The finished render will belong to everyone who participates, with equal rights to display in your gallery along with your own name credited. Copyright will be shared equally. The image I have in mind is "Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity", from the Planets Suite by Gustav Holst. My vision is a big Grecian hall with a large open space full of people dancing. A circle of stone steps bound the central area and the scene is full of people and animals all having fun. The central figure is Jupiter himself, who I will work on. The other characters can be young, old, in between, teens, babies, rabbits, birds, tigers, lions, dogs, pandas, you name it. No violence, no sex and no nudity. Make your people as happy or cute as you like. I have an idea of a bunch of mice dancing in a circle and lions acting like overgrown kittens. I'll supply a light set and more info as and when people respond. All levels of expertise welcome, all styles welcome, all versions of Poser welcome. Over to you.

If you could give me a link to this musicians site, I would like to check it out.

Thanx,

I'll supply a light set and more info as and when people respond. And a camera file, so we'll be able to render our contribution from the proper angle for your final scene. I assume you'll need images with alpha channels or masks to assist in compositing?

Too bad we can't mege with the musicians and provide animations for their music and they, music for our animations :) Don't know if I'll partake in this 'cause I'm so busy and not feeling right at the moment but it sounds like a good idea and I would love to see the results. Luck Q

Cryptojoe - sorry, no. It's a private site. dadt - thanks. LD - Yup. I'll most likely provide an empty PZ3 with all you need ready to go. quixote - Animation is beyond my scope at the moment but I'm sure there are other animators and musicians willing to collaborate.

Sounds fun and if it works out then why not go for Mars and the rest too lol. Jack

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sat, 31 December 2005 at 5:56 PM

Funny you should say that. I have ideas for all of 'em. I'd like to get Jupiter done first, though.

I think it sounds awesome :D Do you want the style of dress to be Grecian as well, or do you have a specific theme of dress?

@MorriganShadow - Any style of clothing is just fine. Classical, sexy, punk, futuristic, whatever you like. @Everyone - I'll more than likely post a basic pencil sketch of the layout. Id doesn't matter if there's some duplication of work, either. If there's more than enough to fill one scene, we can always make several versions. I imagine that the final render will be posted at my usual gallery size of 1280 x 960 but I intend to work at least double that size, so it's going to be best to stick to 2 or 3 figures in your particular section. Don't worry about ground shadows, either. They will most likely be postworked in. So, each render should be without a ground plane. I've decided on this because of the differences in the Poser render engines. @Pakled - Mars has a lot of potential. I'll think of a visual for that one when this project is done. @Everyone - Step up and join in. I'd like the Newbies and the Big Hitters to contribute and make a real community picture.

Sounds like fun! Especially since everyone has a different library, you'll get all kinds of characters together. How do you think about monsters? I'm thinking about sweet little Eternal Judy dancing the tango with the Sixus1 werewolf...

Monsters are welcome. :) Creatures, aliens, robots, statues, people, mousies, birds, dragons, anthropomorphs, hybrids, cats, dogs, sheep (steady on, Taf), cows, lions, monkeys, rabbits, whatever you like.

What's the deadline?

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sat, 31 December 2005 at 9:55 PM

Deadline? Haven't even thought of it yet. Let's say by the end of January. So, yeah, you all got a month to get your collective rendering asses in gear. :)

odd thought..use the names of the moons, and their mythological counterparts, as characters..well, except for lumps like J0-327a 1995, or whatever..;)

Hehe. No. :) Amusing idea but I'll stick with the idea of Jove himself making evryone happy and not worry too much about the names of anyone else. The mythology will stay within the main part of the characters for each image. Yep, I'll make one for each, now the idea was given to me.

Sounds like fun, I'll try to make a couple dancing or two if you want me also:) Niki

friendlyrogue ( ) posted Sun, 01 January 2006 at 7:14 AM

As a thought... wouldn't a good idea be to start with some idea of the scale of the hall, so we can begin to work out how much room we might have to play with? Also, doing this would mean we could each post a thumbnails sketch of where our characters are likely to be positioned, so that we don't suffer the problem of everyone crammed in one corner (I know that's unlikely to happen, but taking a worst case scenario) just a thought... friendlyrogue

JRey ( ) posted Sun, 01 January 2006 at 8:57 AM

This all sounds interesting and I have a couple custom characters in mind that might work well. How do we get started?

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sun, 01 January 2006 at 10:48 AM

I'll post up more info when a few more people respond. Some of the details aren't worked out yet so I'll consider all the suggestions and come up with a workable plan. As far as it goes, all I need at the moment is your willingness to participate. Thanks, everyone!

Dancing, holding hands, arm in arm, telling jokes, drinking, skylarking, stroking a pet, whatever you like as long as it's nothing sexual or violent.
