Subject: Why is Renderosity running so slow even on hi-speed cable??

drifterlee ( ) posted Mon, 02 January 2006 at 7:53 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 10:50 PM

I have hi-speed cable and still I have to wait forever to view a picture which makes it hard to comment. I have seen other people complaining about this. Does anyone know why this is happening and if RR is going to fix this? Thanks.

when an image file is uploaded as a progressive jpeg, this causes it to load extremely slowly, due to the recursive scans involved, and there can be quite a few of those, which constitutes a very inefficient use of server throughput capacity compared to normal jpeg files. whilst progressive jpeg was no doubt an interesting idea in the early 90s, when clients were limited to 2Kbps dial-up modems, there is no longer any sane reason to use that format. and, in fact, whenever I have asked posters why they chose the progressive jpeg format, in 99% of cases they have absolutely no idea why they did it.

We haven't officially started the PHP conversion just yet. It will begin soon. We are still in the testing stage. This in turn will make slow downs and problems. Please keep in mind once this is passed everything will work smoother. I know its difficult to remain patient. We (Rendero Staff) feel the same frustration as well.. Thanks!! nothing to do with progressive jpegs, just bogged down, slow servers. The official Party Line is that it will improve...eventually... but then again, that's been said for years now. :) maybe tomorrow it'll be faster, or the day after. Meanwhile, while waiting, it's a good time to do something quick and simple, like perfect a new world economy, invent a perpetual motion machine, solve the problem of where the socks go...anything like that. :)

Now that all posts must be checked for sentences with "children," "kid," "girl," "boy," "naked," "nude," and "nekkid" and for depiction of naked ankles, and gallery posts must be checked for 80% coverage of feet, things will be a bit slower. Once the Third World test center is operational, with $1.00/hour ankle checkers, things will go more smoothly. Except for the occasional misunderstanding, of course. "Boy, is that old man's naked scalp shiny!" "Children should not be allowed to look at nude squirrels." M

the squirrel grabbed my nuts. Now if you left off "Mommy," that would get right by the monitors. M
