As far as I know, shaders are always program specific because they are essentially render instructions and renderers vary from program to program. So you can't import shaders from Maya or Max. With booleans it's only possible to do two objects at a time, although you could group the two spheres, export as an OBJ then reimport as a single vertex object and use that for your boolean.
Damn, cant find many free shaders for carrara, for max and maya and the like there are plenty OW! Bummer on the Boolean operation, I'm so used to using primatives in Bryce, you can select many objects to subtract or add at one time, this will slow me down a bit lol. Anyway, thanks for you advice there falconperigot;) Cheers -Michael

The presets are very impressive; I'm just a texture/shader pig lol. Hey, Boolean can produce some excellent results when used in a creative kind of way:) Thats how I did everything in my gallery:) I'm still learning how to model utilizing the other methods in Carrara; remember, I said I use Bryce lol. Cheers;)

There are also a slew of free photo shaders around -- NewTek has some, and many other places. You can google them. As for booleans, the main reason they're not generally smiled upon is because they tend to be buggy in just about any program, aside from Bryce. I think (though I'm no Bryce expert at all) that's because Bryce doesn't really do boolean geometry, but rather does some kind of "this is what it would look like if the sphere had been subtracted from the cube" thing. True boolean geometry stymies even the big packages, but Carrara has certainly come a long way in making the booleans work.... Good luck with Carrara -- it's really an awesome program.

Can Carrara 5 support shadders from other software packages? Maya, Max... Cheers;)
