Subject: Silo newbie question - zooming small items

EnglishBob ( ) posted Thu, 05 January 2006 at 9:30 AM · edited Mon, 04 November 2024 at 3:03 PM

I'm trying out the learning version of Silo at the moment. If I load in a Poser object (i.e. very small) parts of it disappear when I try to zoom in close. I'd expected that the "Near Clip Dist." setting in the Display Options would be the answer, but I can't get it to stick. I put in a smaller distance than the default, but it makes no difference to the display; and when I go back to the options, it's reset back to what it was before.

I am at work and don't have Silo handy but you are in the right place, after entering the desired distance, press enter and the setting should stick. I had a similliar problem when I first started using Silo, drove me crazy.

Thanks other Bob. :) I'd assumed that clicking the OK button would be enough to make it remember...

Not much to add except enter should be pressed after any edit box entry in Silo. This looks like it will be rectified in version 2, see link.

Another point is that poser objects are very small for reasons I don't knwo you could also resize the object and then it will work a bit more normal then resize again before export.

I've no idea why they made Poser objects so tiny, but it's done now and I suppose we have to live with it. Personally I prefer not to scale up or down if it's avoidable; it gets in the way of the workflow. I use Anim8or at the moment, which handles tiny meshes without a problem. Silo is looking promising. Maybe it will be The One For Me. :)

A quick option is to use ObjAction Scaler by Maz to enlarge/reduce obj's between Silo and Poser - only takes 2 clicks of a button, I find it easier to work with larger objects in Silo. Mada
