I always see this page. I stopped trying to get on the forum cause it comes up all the time. I would think that the Rendo PTB could get this figured out.... but I am starting to think that is an incorrect assumption. It is very very very very very very very annoying!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I've been getting it a lot lately too.

This type of thing happens all the time, ignore it.

Have seen this in the past a few times but not lately myself.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

I couldn't log in the otheer day. "SQL server has gone away." I love that message. :-) It's either one of the physical servers acting up or there's something wrong with the SQL instalation.

There are some upgrades randomly going on, and the such, that might have been the culprit. AgentSmith

It could be, as AS suggests, that upgrades are the culprit. If you had a session connected to one server and that server was taken off line for upgrade there would be a SQL glitch when it tried to route you to another server. COuld be to omany connections and you lose priority in the queue thus get a "no connection". OR...it could be reflective of how they are doing data replication across database servers but I have long since "moved to the business end of the building" on that one. I like Zhann's response though: "Pay no attention to the man behind the green curtain" :)

I was just getting a chuckle out of Erlik's observation: "The server has gone away" is just hilarious. It reminds me of a time when my 14-year-old was about two. She would get bored or irritated or simply distracted by something else, and right in the middle of a conversation, she'd say, "I'm gonna leaf." And that was that. She'd walk out and not turn back. We'd just be there open-mouthed wondering what in the heck had just happened. Anyway, "the server has gone away" just floors me the same way. :) BTW, I've been getting the SQL crud lately a lot, too, and it is pretty irritating to go sometimes an hour or more and not be able to log on, like last Saturday, I believe.

Move to Australia, we never seem to get the errors in normal waking hours!

Rayraz ( ) posted Sat, 07 January 2006 at 6:11 PM

It's a very basic error originating from the execution of a part of the code of renderosity that searches for renderosity content. In this case it seems that there are problems connecting to the database. My guess is that this often has to do with updates. Another option is problems with the 'rosity server(s) but this most likely not often the case as 'rosity is a far to large community for me to assume it would show as much an inprofessional way of managing it's hosting as to use instable server(s).

I'd assume if the server was completely snafu, you'd get a 'can't find port 3306 on IP 66.18.108.194' rather then the SQL gone away message, does depend on how rendo is coded though......
