Subject: Site Navigation

coolcatcom ( ) posted Fri, 06 January 2006 at 11:55 AM ยท edited Wed, 06 November 2024 at 2:03 PM

Is it just me? Site navigation has dramatically slowed down in the past 10 to 15 days linking to My Home Page, To MY Gallery, or to my Fav's from my Home Page can take 2 to 3 minuets and at times it won't even link. (just hangs there loading) Funny linking to Forums, Store, Free Stuff is AOK. What gives?

blacq_nyght_vampyre ( ) posted Fri, 06 January 2006 at 4:06 PM

I agree!! Even after the supposed server reboot!!! What does give? I thought it was my computer but everything else comes up quickly and I have a high speed connection. Drivine me bonkers!!!!!! Gallery links are slow; makes for slow commenting time.

IT JUST TOOK 6.5 minutes to go into someone's gallery. This is making me nuts. Is anyone doing anything about this??

I have cable internet and several times in the past two weeks (I've been on holiday from work) I've tried browsing the galleries then tried clicking on member options and trying to get to my gallery. It just hangs. I can't seem to get to anything related to Member Options but the MarketPlace has no issues which I thought rather strange. Then sometimes I get a "MYSQL Server has gone away" response and it logs me out.
Maybe MYSQL server has gone away because it can't handle the slowness either? :oD so coolcatcom it's not just you.

I'm sure there is a reason for this... it would just be nice not to be a mushroom sometimes ;o) and I'm probably being overly optimistic here, but I'm sure it will be sorted out eventually.

I agree too! I also have cable internet and I have been having trouble getting into the galleries....but the MarketPlace! Boom..I'm there no problem! Hmmmm...wonder why that is do you think?? This has been going on for way too long! Something should be done no doubt!!

It's running fairly fast for me right now. I see under 1,600 "surfers" though. When that number climbs to 2,000 or more, a completely different story. I do buy the ocassional model here, so I am glad the marketplace isn't experiencing these problems. Surfing the galleries does get frustrating, as I spend most of my time there. Like most everyone else, I remain patient. I grumble, but I try to remain patient for the upgrades.

I dont know if anyone's ever pointed this out, but I am told, so I thought I would share with ya's that, a cable connection shares bandwidth.

I am told this means that while you might be paying for a highspeed connection, if you, are online at "peak" hours, your speeds might not be quite as fast as you'd like because the neighbors in your hood are using it also.

Don't know if thats the absolute truth or not, but if it is, I just thought/wondered if this might be contributing to the slow speeds alot of folks are getting lately.

That's a very good point BDC and I had considered it but I have no difficulty navigating through any of the other sites I visit, including very graphic intensive ones. Most sites load within seconds for me, I have probably about 3 people in my street with cable internet but I'm not sure how many in my neighbourhood. It's never been slow on other sites and I've had cable for about a year now. My computer is only about 18months old, 3.0ghz processor, 512mb DDR Ram so that lets that out too. Sure I'm a bit frustrated but when you consider how many people actually log on to 'Rosity each day, I'm surprised it hasn't collapsed under the weight. I shall continue to think positively and hope all will be well soon.

Well from the posts so far it is good to know that I am not alone and I appreciate feed back from my peers. I But a post from a Rendo Mod., or Admin. to this forum giving us all an explaination regarding the slow down would indeed go a long way to ease the frustration. My thinking is that they need to buy additional hardware the current equipment is simoly overloaded and cannot handle the traffic at times. I have been posting here for 3 years and I have never seen this. I to am on highspeed every other site I visit loads super fast no matter the hour! I Say Mods, Admins., are you listening what's wrong!

I think Renderosity have to do something. Sites and a community like Renderosity uses a lot of bandwidth and need up to date hardware to keep up the demand dor such a community. So it has to do with hardware or maybe the structure of the database/php design. Well I could not see (because i do not have this kind information) if there has been changes. Also I do not have any input regarding the kind of use the community has at this moment. What should be done is an open answer from renderosty regarding the situation. What is going on? We are all familiar with the turtle speed at this moment and my guess is that the pleasure in viewing the work of others has no use when you are frustrating in sayinh those bad words when an mysql error is popping up or load times are not acceptable. So if this community wants to live... well things must changes or else the merchants and posters are leaving.... No sales when there are no visitors because of this slowness. Maybe its time for a payment per month like Deviant-art...

if you read farther down in the forum you will see they are working on the problem, being updating to Bondware 3.0 and afterwards the remaining web site

Sure hope their optimization or software upgrade or all of the above remedy this. Browsing the galleries is becoming painful!

With glaciers' recent global warming upgrade, I think they are moving faster than the galleries!
