Subject: Texture question about Vue 5 infinite

Othosmops ( ) posted Wed, 11 January 2006 at 4:46 AM · edited Fri, 03 January 2025 at 4:47 AM

Is it possible to make an object1 change it's color on those places where object2 is very close?
Eg coastlines: can I add a foamy water texture on my sea plane everywhere some terrains look out off the water?

I found a lot of input node options within the function editor but not an "object proximity" or somewhat.
Did I ignore something?

You can use the distance to object below node to do this. Eric Hollbrook was one of the first one's to use tis technicque for foamy water around shorelines. You could look in the backroom or search this forum for more details on how to do this.

An objext proximity node would have been infinitely more useful than distance to object below.

Guess this function has a way limited range (compared with some already existing proximity features of the ecosystems). At least some shore-foam can be emulated without using memory-eating waterterrain-objects.

Here one try:

The most important thing is that terrains have to be clipped because the 'distance to object below' node just projects the xy-shape of the "object below" onto the water/ground plane.

You'll find my materials in Freestuff for doing exactly this. If you understand Vue 5 Inf's advanced material editing, you can have a lot of fun with them.

This is the bit of the material editor you need to use.
