The link is to the post by Jocko about a large camera. Within that message is a link to an amazing image taken years ago with a camera lifted by kites! So, the man who did that shot in the link was an innovator. Adams was an innovator. The first tintype was innovation...where does it go today? I am perhaps too unexposed(thats funny!:0 )to what is going on today in photography. To me, it seems mostly equipment such as vibration and shake elimination, digital resources, etc. Where are the photographic innovators today? I don't mean who is accepted publically by genre or todays popularity ratings. Are the innovators the big cooperations? Are there single photographers who really stand out at bringing a new direcction to photography? If not "directon" could it be quality of imaging? I wonder what really innovative is going on, far beyond what Olympus, Nikon, Canon, etc. might offer next year. For me at this time, it is enough to get a really fine shot and make it work with less digital manipulation. Then again..

Tom, i was reading what they are doing with photography and the medical world. i'll see if i can find that article. no wait...i mailed that magazine to my brother after i finished reading it. anyway, the article was about cameras that you SWALLOW. It takes pictures of your gastrointestinal tract i believe. the camera was like teeeny tiny. oh man...i'll have to see if i can find something on the web about it in the morning. i'm so sleepy, Tom. night. :)

They are here, there, everywhere ! Things are moving so fast most people can't comprehend it.

How long have you had a digital camera? How long have you had a PC? When did you first here about people colour calibrating monitors and printers?

It is easy to look back at history time lines and get the impression that lots of things were happening when actually the dates are sometimes decades apart.

Today people are taking more photographs in more places than ever and there are still animal species living on Earth that have never been photographed in all their life stages. How many nature programs have you seen you using innovative photography to capture moments and species that have never been seen before. They are using remote and sometimes minute cameras.
Sheila mentioned small above in the medical field - lots going on there. Nano technology will bring amazing photographs of sights we can only imagine.
How many news photographs do you see now that come from the man in the street with a mobile phone - could you have imagined that 20 yrs ago?

Yep the commercial side will be developing digital to be better more pixels and memory etc etc etc but the leading edge is way beyond that.

Further into the future:
Computers are held back by silicon chips there are inherent problems that mean new solutions have to be found and are being worked on. Silicon chips are very wasteful in energy but much worse is the time taken for electricity to travel their circuits which limits the size of the circuits. Already a problem today!

New technology there will allow advances in other fields: Photographs that work with more of the senses perhaps. Photographs that give you the actual experience of the situation.

Yep there are innovators about, and things are moving very fast.

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

I posted a link a few weeks back about a camera that will let you take the photo, and then focus it later...and another about new chips being used for security cams that will revolutionized digi-cams when the tech eventually makes it's way to that arena. Yes, there are still a lot of innovations out there, it is hard to keep track with them all and they tend to become a blur so it is easy to miss them.
