Subject: IGNORE buttons for chatroom

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Mon, 19 March 2001 at 9:24 AM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 6:24 AM

Please, can we have one installed. We just had a situation whereby a thing entered the chatroom and created HAVOK for at least half an hr. It would be ideal to be able to set them on ignore.

Wizzard ( ) posted Mon, 19 March 2001 at 9:44 AM

and a clear button to get rid of the 40 pages of dreck that accumulates when this happens... without having to log out and re-log in... Thanks

Eshal ( ) posted Mon, 19 March 2001 at 9:45 AM

I second this suggestion whole heartedly. I know it has been put forth for the forums before and vetoed....but guys in chat it could really be handy to block out annoying chat crashers. Can we have one Puhlease???? Regards Eshal

I totally agree ,people like that spoil it for everyone.or an ejector button would be nice,

Ironbear ( ) posted Mon, 19 March 2001 at 10:44 AM

Or at least a "bump idjit" button for the moderators to use. Sheesh! ;]

Ignore and Clear buttons sound just fine to me.

fozzibear ( ) posted Mon, 19 March 2001 at 9:31 PM

maybe an ignoramus button too, these idjits are a real problem. Maybe a cappachino maker in the corner would be nice too. just kidden with ya there. Seriously, an ignore button would stop the idiots in their tracks, pleeeeeeeaaaaaasssssssssssseeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

depakotez ( ) posted Mon, 19 March 2001 at 9:32 PM

I agree with this completely! That guy was there like an hour. (If we dare call him a guy) Doing nothing but causing problems. I would love to be able to just ignore them and feel mighty till the mods arrive and truly show power with "Kick 'em where it counts" ability.

ShadoRunr ( ) posted Tue, 20 March 2001 at 12:40 AM

My wish list includes both an "Ignore" button and a "Clear" button. The cappachino maker would be a bonus, too. And scones or freshly baked donuts, if it's not asking too much.

dark_thoughts ( ) posted Tue, 20 March 2001 at 2:16 AM

omg YES ignore button!!! please o please o puullleeeeezzzzzze!!!!!!!

Ironbear ( ) posted Tue, 20 March 2001 at 3:28 AM

Heh. Illusions, as depakotez pointed out, I was in there for almost an hour keeping the guy entertained while Jeff logged out his sessions till he went away. Have to admit, we probably put on a good show for the audience. ;]

Taura Noxx ( ) posted Tue, 20 March 2001 at 4:49 AM

all chat rooms should have an ignore button. It really does spoil things when someone starts making trouble.

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Tue, 20 March 2001 at 7:21 AM

It was an awesome show Bear lol.....too bad he was too young to notice and appreciate the performances ;) In all seriousness though....we really do need and ignore, or an eject button. I would like to thank you personally for the effort you took and for coming to our rescue. I know u are busy, and it was noted and very very much appreciated. Cappuccino maker is LOL however, another possible option is an SOS button to page or instant message an admin or a mod about the problem at hand.... expanding on that theory...I do believe that moderators should be granted extra power in such situations to eject the person concerned out of the chatroom. We are getting more and more strange things entering the chat these days, and they are more juvenile than normal! Is it school holidays or did the games sites suddenly take a dive? Or something as sinister as this

Ironbear ( ) posted Tue, 20 March 2001 at 7:33 AM

Like I said, Rose... give your thanks to JeffH. He did all the work. I just kept the boy occupied and out of ya'll hair for a litte while. Part of the job, eh?

I'd like to support this suggestion aswell

Thanatos ( ) posted Tue, 20 March 2001 at 7:14 PM

I was asked by several frequent users of the chat room communty to lend weight to the argument of pros and cons for the installation of an "ignore" or "kick" button to the chat room menu. So after many hours of laborious research I can now present the following data. TABLE 1 PROS 1. Not having to deal with the moron and the mindless. 2. Not having to endure the abuse of those who have nothing better to do. 3. Actually being able to do something about those thoughtless individuals who fall into the above three categories. 4. Fish 5. Lemon cream 6. Rice TABLE 2 CONS 1. Something Administrative ? I wholeheartedly support this formal request for the installation for an "ignore" button for the chat room community or at least a "kick" switch for the room moderator. The members of the chat room community are a valuable rescorce for many budding and experienced artists alike. They give up their precious time to solve problems for the troubled, and more often than not their personal tips and tricks that define their styles as individual artists in this online community in which we live. As a member of the "chatroom board of "gabbers and chin waggers" I believe that we are deserved at least this much for the free service to which we provide this community. Unsigned

You people are hilariously funny; brings tears to my eyes sniffle ;-)

Curio ( ) posted Wed, 21 March 2001 at 2:11 PM

I think an ignore button is a bit harsh, but the oppotunity for chat users to vote to kick someone out is good idea. 3 or 4 votes and they're out! Like on isketch...

Ironbear ( ) posted Wed, 21 March 2001 at 2:21 PM

Hrmmm... this topics getting a lot of response. Where's RC?

MAYBE it would be best for the admins/mods to have something like they do in the AOL chat rooms, a "Gag" command. WHen someone is gagged, the admin sets a duration (usually five or ten minutes) during which NOTHING that person types will show up in the chat room. Three gags in a session gets you booted offline, generally, and a TOS complaint logged against your account.

TJ ( ) posted Wed, 21 March 2001 at 6:42 PM

Just putting in my vote of support:-) Its not a bad idea at all.

dark_thoughts ( ) posted Thu, 22 March 2001 at 3:18 AM

how bout 3 complaints and it erases yur hard drive...haahahahahaah...just kidding

pureflesh ( ) posted Fri, 23 March 2001 at 11:57 AM

maybe there should not be an ignore button.Maybe there should be an op standing by.But if there is no op standing by, there should be an 'off with his head button' just an idea Beck.

Wizzard ( ) posted Fri, 27 April 2001 at 5:03 AM

Sigh merely refreshing the request for an Ignore/boot on the chat room... there are times when we get blocked for saying thank you.. well.. in japanese anyeways.. but blithering idiots and pillocks can dump loads of fertalizer into the room with no recourse save leaving.... twould be most pleasant to just go... "seeya!" and click an ignore on the foole.. at least until they leave.... maybe after they get a clue.. they'll be more pleasant... if not? "Seeya!" kindly look into our request? or at least say no? CHeers

dark_thoughts ( ) posted Fri, 27 April 2001 at 5:19 AM

hereyee hereyee, oi secund that moshun!!!!!!!!!!! would be a good thing to have!!!

TJ ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 11:27 PM

Im just bringing this link back up, because having been harassed and leaving chat because people do come that just cant respect one another I think we really need that button. So administration can keep us posted if theres any progress with this , and I hope we can work this out :-)

dark_thoughts ( ) posted Fri, 01 June 2001 at 11:50 PM

yes i agree....some of these lil pricks are so aweful and malicious that it can upset a person for days!!! fortunately...when i first came here...there wasnt much of this at all...as i recall...before sacred, audre, myself and a few others started getting together in chat ...the room was mostly empty at all times....now...you can go in there just about any time of day or night and there is a lot of things happening!!! people posting links back and forth, sharing ideas,friendship,comeraderie....its a great place to really share ideas with people!!!.....and...if i were a new member....and encountered the aweful experience of having to put up with garbage from some mean spirited a**hole...well...i probably would not have come back....having to put up with these cretins really casts a bad light on this sight as a friendly place to be...i for one know it is a great place...as do we all....putting a kik button would save a lot of people a lot of anxiety and needless emotional suffering...its about time that this ignore button was installed....especially with summer just around the corner...and all the lil kiddies that might have nothing better to do out of school....ignore button will definately teach some of these people some manners....pullleeeaaaassseee install it !!!!

rcook ( ) posted Sat, 02 June 2001 at 10:53 AM

It's not being ignored. It's already on the todo list. It's not an easy change though, and is down the list a bit.

dark_thoughts ( ) posted Sat, 02 June 2001 at 10:55 AM

great!!! glad you are workin on it!!

Wizzard ( ) posted Sat, 02 June 2001 at 11:47 PM

Thank you russ... that's all I wanted was an acknowledgement... I'm aware of the pain it'll be to code, and how much you're doing with everything on the site... it was just starting to feel like scfreaming into the wilderness 8 ) CHeers, and thank you again
