Subject: line between head and neck

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 23 January 2006 at 1:48 AM · edited Sun, 02 February 2025 at 10:49 PM

I've just noticed when I render a close up of the neck I can see the texture join in V3. I've tried several textures and they all do it to some extent. I che3cked to see I hadn't left a bump map on or something but it all seems okay. Is this something that is normal with bought textures? Love esther

When you look at the texture maps at full size, you will notice that in absolute values there are many more pixels at the neck joint of the head text. than at the neck of the body. This is what makes it more diffcult to get an invisible transition. This is also what distinguishes good texture artists from mediocre ones. The quality level can differ in photorealism etc but I personally find that if you pay for it, this seam must be invisible. So I would complain to the creator of that texture. I would also love it if people who meet such a thing would add a product review to the MP's page of that product.

Well even the daz ones weren't perfect although they were the best I tried. I never noticed it before so maybe it's not that much of an issue, but under a very bright light setup that I had it was obvious. Love esther

It may depend on whether or not you have Texture Filtering on (at least in Poser 6) - that will give fugly deams, not only at the neck but elsewhere on the model. In some cases it also depends on your texture resolution, I know of a few models that will show seams if you render them with lower resolution than the texture is. But bought textures should be seamless or you should be eglible for a refund.

Okay, I'll go check on those things. But I don't want a refund on my bought textures as it has happened with all my favourite textures. There isn't any equivalent to the ones I like on the MP. But maybe it is something to do with the way I'm rendering as I never noticed it in the past, nor in vue where I normally render. Love esther

I wasjust rendering at draft quality. but i've ditched the scene now so I can't say whether the problem is fixed, but my guess is that was what it was. Love esther

Draft WILL give you seams on a lot of textures. Draft is, as the name suggests, not intended for anything but a quick mock-up render :o)
