THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Gallery viewing change

AgentSmith ( ) posted Mon, 23 January 2006 at 1:48 PM · edited Thu, 26 December 2024 at 10:42 AM

Now when you click to view an image in the gallery the image will popup in a new window, then to close it (and go back to the thumbnails), you just normal click on the pic. Start testing it with all your various web browsers and pop-up killers, see if there is any problems. I for one looooove it. If any problems, be sure to post about it in the Community Forum also, so the Admins will be sure to see it. Thanks! AgentSmith

Oh yeah! Now we're talking!

Thanks for the head's up, AS. I was another of those lost souls who couldn't get back to the galleries by clicking "thumbnails". That function didn't like Safari too much. But now everything works great! :D ~arry

Yeah, it seemed to work fine with IE, but everyone was left out in the cold, so the staff (Tim) "fixed" it. ;o) AS

This has been going on for days if not weeks. An earlier 'heads-up' would have been kinder.....

I don't remember having gallery picture pop-ups weeks ago, myself. But, I always open up gallery pics with a shift+click anyways. AS

Tim also put a "close on click"on the image. To close the new window,..just click on the image. Tom

Works great in Safari....the close window link doesn't seem to work, but then it's just as easy to click on the little red button at the top of the window too.

Incarnadine ( ) posted Mon, 23 January 2006 at 9:24 PM

It works in Mozilla but I will still run with middle clicking for a new browser tab. Personal preference I guess.

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

ariannah ( ) posted Mon, 23 January 2006 at 9:50 PM

Just noticed something when using Safari. If you leave a comment, the window doesn't close when clicking on it. It does work in this manner if you don't leave a comment. Also as vangogh said above, the close window link does not work either. You can close it following his method though. I guess this should also be posted in the Community forum just in case...

Thanks, AS - it's much appreciated. It does work when not leaving a comment, though. Very strange.

Sorry but it doesn't work for me either way. I use IE and before the changes I could see the thumbnails in the galleries even with the sometimes slowness of opening new pages, but now all I get is a square that says 'AD' instead of the pictures and when I click the square to open the picture the picture opens from the top scanning down to the bottom....slowly! When I click on the picture to close it a window pops up asking if I want to close it and when I say yes the whole website closes down.
I have disabled popup blocking with no difference.
So far it's frustrating to surf this site with the improvement; I hope I can get this new change you've done to work for me soon.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Mon, 23 January 2006 at 11:38 PM

Wow...I've not run into anything like that all myself. I use IE 6.0 most of the time here. Have you cleared all your cache and cookies, just for a chance? AS

rstar ( ) posted Mon, 23 January 2006 at 11:51 PM

yep did that, no change. My internet settings are set to 'show pictures' and Renderosity is set as a 'trusted site' so the security setting is low for thsi site...other than those settings I am at a loss as to what might have changed in my browser to cause this problem.

rstar ( ) posted Mon, 23 January 2006 at 11:52 PM

oh, yes, I also use IE6.0

Hi rstar I'm using IE here as well. No problems here either. As mentioned, this is similar to the way the 3DC gallery is set up. Do you have the same problem there? If so..it might be a browser setting that needs tweaked.Or clearing the cookies and Cache as Kirk mentioned. So far...I've seen nothing but a significant improvment in speed. I'm sure it will need tweaked over the next few days to iron out any glitches. There is a thread in the Community Center forum that Tim is watching. (linked) you might wanna post your findings there also to make sure they see it. Tom

I think it sucks. If I WANT to open it in a new window then I can perfectly well hold the SHIFT key for myself. Now I don't have any choice anymore. What's wrong with having to use the shift key when clicking? It's not as if you need to operate that mousebutton with two hands. Or at least make it so that you can decide to turn it off in your profile?

AgentSmith ( ) posted Wed, 25 January 2006 at 1:56 AM

Perhaps that can be an option after the gallery switch to PHP, I'm not sure if its possible or not. AS

I noticed this while surfing Rend waiting for my computer science lab to start. I think it's a fine idea (but then again I don't mind having twelve or more windows open at the same time on my computer).
