If you're talking about combining various images to create a new piece, you needs something like PaintShop Pro or Photoshop that enables you to "layer" images. There are other software apps that can do this too! GIMP is a free program that you can download at the attached link:

Layers are indispensible parts of the digital world. I am beginning to do image adjustments that way, with "adjustment layers" to prevent degrading of the image I am working. Still, as Cindy said, the most basic rule is "work with a copy and not the original". Both PSP abd Photoshop and other progs allow a fairly easy >edit> copy> paste as new image(psp) or >image> duplicate (photoshop). I suggest opening layers pallate and playing around a bit to see what it does. Open a copy of the bg layer to have something to work with or promote the bg to a layer. That might not make sense but it will once you do it. Best wishes! I know little of this compared to Cindy and others here but this note might help. Tons of good tuts are out there to find in a simple search. TomDart.

When working with layers....try getting a hang on layermasks. Instead of having to erase part of your layers you can hide it using layermasks instead. The biggest advantage is that you can always "paint it back in" if you slip up or something. And when using with layermasks...i always use a soft brush when im painting or i apply a gaussian blur once im done to get a smooth transission. Cindy wrote: "learning layers will open you up to whole new world in digital photo editing" And that couldnt be more true. Good luck. #:O)

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

THANK YOU EVERYONE! Now lets see if I can do all this! I'm sure I can, But I'm definitely glad I've got so many cool people to help out! I only have the freeware of Adobe Photoshop, but I went and downloaded a few programs yesterday. The GIMP and Photo Finale and Photo Plus 5.5 . Can anyone tell me which one is better and easier to operate, maybe?! Have't had the chance to go play yet, but I will sometime today!

sorry.. haven't worked with any of those 3.. but keep an eye out for one of the older versions of Adobe Photoshop Elements.. a pared down version of PS & many times being offered free bundled with other PC products
