Subject: SAM'S 3D will be closing this site

Casette ( ) posted Tue, 31 January 2006 at 12:16 PM · edited Thu, 19 September 2024 at 3:34 PM

Copy/paste from their site:

**Official Notice: SAM'S 3D will be closing this site as of March 1, 2006.

We are not going out of business...we are moving to Renderosity.com

All of SAM'S 3D products will only be sold at Renderosity.com

As of March 1, 2006, about 80% of the models we are selling now, have been sold (copywrite and all) to another buyer. We will be creating new freebie models and new sale models, and will make them all available at Renderosity.com. Renderosity.com will be the only place you will be able to obtain any of SAM'S 3D models.

We have had many request to sell out of Renderosity.com and we are now officially making the move. We are very excited about this change and hope it will better for all involved.**
Well... some people goes out, some comes in... but... I'm wondering if they still will create their nice freebies or this is a matter from past times...

Why in the world shouldn't they continue to make freebies?! I mean.. I do. And so does a lot of other people. Selling at Rosity isn't the same as selling your soul, y'know.

Sharen, if you read this: I wish you all the best :o))

We are not leaving or going anywhere, just closing our site down....that is if I can get my files uploaded to Renderosity's marketplace and freestuff....we need to keep our site for a little while so we can make sure our transition is compleate. Want to be able to get some of our new models out to everyone. We will still be making freebies, but we are also making new items to sell here at Renderosity....like we said above, it is better for all who don't use paypal...etc. Sharen PS: Renderosity has been great to us and very supportive, we have never had any problems here. We do trust them and believe in them as a group, also all the members.

I know that alot of people think we are crazy...and that we are taking a step backwords, but believe me....we are not. We feel we are going forwards, with more options...we talked to other places and had other options and when it came down to it...this place....Renderosity gave us the most options that we need. We have not had the problems others have had and I doubt we will. We are different, we understand somethings differently and don't feel we are making an error. This comment is by no means a critisizm towards anyone personally and not meant to hurt anyone. Sharen

One thing is for sure: You get a lot of exposure here because there are so many members. And that's a good thing in my book. I sell a few of my things elsewhere and even when they were new, they never sold anything worth mentioning, while here: They've sold a lot. So I like this place a lot, too. Yes, they take 50% of your earnings, but it's better to have 50% of these sales than 100% of nothing.

This doesn't sound crazy, it seems very appropriate. SAMS3D's participation here and the freebie announcements have been a positive part of The Poser Forum for years. SAMS3D has been a boon to the Vue community as well. Best of luck with the move! :-)

Are you really going to give up your Web site, though? Lots of Rosity merchants keep personal Web sites. To host freebies, or for their art, or to promote their stores.

If you let your domain registration lapse, the domain name vampires will grab it and turn it into a porn site and you'll never get it back.

SHARON! I am so excited and thrilled, and happy...and and.. LOL!! I am going to be waiting in line to shop at your section here at Rosity with my credit card! wwhoooppeee!! (I am one of those who just will not deal with a pay pal account) Your models are top notch, and this will make things so much easier! Yeaaaaaa!! :)) Uh...kudoos (or however you spell it) to Sam too of course... you both are the best team! :)

SAMS3D People, Hopefully, you don't have to administer all the website commerce backend (chuck that at Renderosity), just focus on creating and collecting money - nah, that sounds crass and vulgar ! But please continue to do the creating bit. You guys do great work. Pay or free, it would be a loss if SAMS3D withdrew completely from the 3D world. So, best wishes on your next move !

Well Sharen. This is cool and a good business move :) Now you'll get all those sales with "in store credit". A truely large money source. After all, it's the merchants who have money to spend on this. Got to love in store credit, muhahahah. :P May your email be flooded with item sold ebots, lol geo

JHoagland ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 12:39 PM

In my opinion, this is a poor business move. How much will you get back by giving 50% of your product sales to Renderosity? Or were you able to make a deal to get Renderosity to give you more? A better business move would have been to partner with one of the providers who sell at Content Paradise. I'm sure you could have made a deal with them to get you 75% to 85% of your product's sales price. Sure, you may not get as many sales at CP, but chances are good that you'll make more money. After all, it doesn't take very many sales at an 85% cut to equal the income from a 50% cut. Wait, that should be reversed: it takes more sales at a 50% cut to equal the amount of sales at an 85% cut. The best business move would have been to put your partnership up for "bid" and see which site could give you the best solution. Which site could give you more money, more visitors, or more downloads? --John

JHoagland, I have to thank you for your input.....believe it or not....we considered doing it here and CP. We went to CP twice....and guess what? They were not interested. What can I say......we were told by them and by another larger place...that our products would be considered a nitch......we said with confusion on our face....A Nitch...what the heck does that mean...basically, our models might help sell other larger models and they MIGHT consider it. We first said....."WHAT"? then we had to laugh...sort of agreed with them and moved on. We had always considered Renderosity, but the deal we did get was much better, and I hate to elaborate, but I feel I have to. Rendersoity and it's memebers have supported us since we arrived on the scene for many years, in more ways then we can tell you. Also, we were offered a nice price from a private illustrator to buy most of our models outright. These models that were bought, were mostly our older models...we really could not turn it down. It is time for fresh new models that can be used in the updated versions of Poser as with the older versions that are still out and compatible with other 3d apps. Need to go forward if we are going to stay involved in this. When you sell anything on your own, it can cost you more in many different ways, you can can reach more people at lower prices and more if you have more ways for them to aquire them...example Paypal verses Mastercard, Visa etc. Don't get me wrong, Paypal has been great to us, but not all people have or want Paypal. Okay, I guess that explains it all....so what do you think know of our decission? Sharen

ynsaen ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 7:39 PM

I just want to point out that by selling through renderosity, SAMS3D is selling through CP if they so choose. Independently, they might get denied (which is exceedingly common), but since Renderosity supplies over 80% of the actual salable content for CP with no discernible difference in income. While there is a significant issue at present with the CP store and the new rendo store, that will likely be overcome. For them at present, I still say this is a great move, both for them and for their customers. It might take more 50% sales to equal an 85% sale, but when you'll actually sell 10 units at 50% versus 3 units at 85%, the argument sorta falls apart. (and yeah, this is me saying this -- the girl who smacks rendo on a frequent basis)

Well if you aren't doing exclusives you might want to consider talking to us at PoserAddicts too, and getting involved in our new online store which will open in spring 2006. We are interested in quality products. Perhaps CP is too big for its britches. Greetings, Antonio PoserAddicts.
