Poser Python Scripting F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Sep 18 2:50 am)

We now have a ProPack Section in the Poser FreeStuff.
Check out the new Poser Python Wish List thread. If you have an idea for a script, jot it down and maybe someone can write it. If you're looking to write a script, check out this thread for useful suggestions.

Also, check out the official Python site for interpreters, sample code, applications, cool links and debuggers. This is THE central site for Python.

You can now attach text files to your posts to pass around scripts. Just attach the script as a txt file like you would a jpg or gif. Since the forum will use a random name for the file in the link, you should give instructions on what the file name should be and where to install it. Its a good idea to usually put that info right in the script file as well.

Subject: Bump moving scripts : versions to operate on all actors.

nruddock ( ) posted Sat, 21 January 2006 at 12:29 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 10:27 AM

Following posts have versions of my bump map fixup and move Wacros, modified to work on a whole scene.

Details of the originals :
Move "Gradient Bump" to "Bump" and Move "Bump" to "Displacement"
Reconnect bump map to "Gradient_Bump"

The new versions will operate on all actors (body parts, props, and hair props) present in a scene.

Run from the File menu or the Python palette.
While they will run from the Warco palette or UserDefined list, they aren't really Wacros due to their "operate on everything" nature.

Thanks :) Your original scripts were as important as the delete all lights script! The new ones will save even more time! Thanks again! Martin

Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.

Having a problem with these scripts, nruddock... it's not recognising a definition of 'mats' in line 47. Conversely, the original files seem to work fine for me. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? jonthecelt

Your not doing anything wrong, that line shouldn't be there. Corrected versions below.

Thanks for the swift reply, nruddocks. for a minute there, figured it had to be me, since no one else had posted a problem! :) jonthecelt

I think the others were using them on Props only, so the problem wouldn't have shown up.

I'm just now trying to run these scripts from the file menu. When it runs it says that I must select a material. What? I'm in the material room with a material right in front of me in the window but it won't work. What material is it asking for?

nruddock ( ) posted Wed, 22 February 2006 at 5:45 PM

The scripts in this thread don't ask for a material selection.

"moveGrads2BumpEverything" and "moveBumps2DispEverything" ask for a Bump value and Displacement value respectively.

The scripts linked in post #1 do contain that message.
I'll need you to post a screenshot so that I can see what's present in your scene and what you have selected when you get the message.

Hi nruddock. I think I might have older versions of your scripts. I'll download these and try again. Thanks.

Note, that due to the new forum software you need to right click on the broken images and choose "Save As ..." (or equivalent) to get the scripts (use a PY extension).

Move Gradient Bump to Bump just worked for me in P7 using V3 and her HiRes Maps.  I'll keep playing around to let you know if I run ito any issues.

Thanks again for this sanity-saving script!
