Shadows on the water? well, that happens in real life. The only thing I can think of is to set your light source (sun or otherwise) so it doesn't shine down on the water
Stars in the Sky?- go to the sky selections (that little white cloud, in Skies and Fogs (I think, I'm doing this from memory, I'm at work), and look at the thumbs. Go down and (I think on the left side), you'll see a black square, that will show up as 'starfield'. Select this
tip- the Bryce stars defaults are..uh..well, could be better. What you can do is pull up the controls, and turn down the intensity, and turn up the number (I usually go for about 5-6,000 stars). Looks a lot better that way. Play with it until you see what you like. Have fun. People who actually have Bryce at their fingertips at the moment (which I don't..;) will probably have some screen shots. If not, I'll do some when I get home tonight..

advice..don't try using bryce for stars..post work that in using photoshop..or use a 2d background. shadow? have you tried selecting the material you don't want to recieve a shadow... then go to materials lab.. there is a drop down arrow at the top.. and deselecting 'recieve shadows'? as for saving objects..click on the object.. then go to create.. at the bottom u'll see installed and a drop down arrow.. drop it down..select user.. click 'add'..a pop up window comes in..fill in the details..and click the arrow.

now once you have the library open, pick the Starfield sky (here it's bordered in red, which indicates your choice)

now, click the check mark, to pull up the properties. Notice I've selected 'celestial' and stars, and have lowered the intensity, and raised the number of stars..

when you've done this, click on the check mark on the lower right corner, and that will apply the sky to the background..like so.

that work?..;)
Now the objects question. There's 2 kinds of objects in Bryce; primitives, or Booleans. You can save Bryce primitives (the spheres, cones, etc) in Bryce, though I haven't really done that (I have reasons..don't fret, though..;) Important note- you can't export Bryce primitives out of Bryce. There is an .obp format that you can import and export, but only to Bryce.
The other kind of objects are imported objects; files created in another program like Wings, Blender, 3ds Max, Lightwave, yada yada..;) They're saved in a format that Bryce can understand, such as .obj (object format), .3ds (3ds max, at least the older versions), .dxf (I think this is autocad), etc. Bryce can understand several different formats, so you can import and export them with File, Import Object, and point it to where you have an object stored. Lessee..;)
Here's a robot, created in Wings 3d (free modeling program..but one thing at a time..;)

shinyary2 ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 8:32 PM

A couple of things that might help: If you just clicked the sun icon to change it to night, it won't work. Stars are only visible if you are much later at night (move the moon nearer the center). Also check to make sure you have no clouds. It's the middle tab in the skylab, you can just uncheck "Stratus" and there you go.

pakled ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 8:32 PM

then import the object into the picture

Lord_Delete ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 8:33 PM

hehe yup it worked :D thx alot. think what I did wrong was I didnt have a dark enough backround from the start. btw how do I get the stars to get bigger ? now it looks like small grey dots that havnt been renderd.

pakled ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 8:34 PM

file_323445.jpg

notice when it comes into the picture, it's glowing white..it has to be textured. That's a whole 'nother ball of wax..but we'll pretend..;)

pakled ( ) posted Wed, 01 February 2006 at 8:41 PM

file_323446.jpg

so we apply a texture, and this is what you get..(note, click on the 'm' button next to the object). You get libraries of materials, from which to choose, and thousands more on the web..;) pick one you like, and apply it. You might want to try some tutorials in Bryce, from Daz 3d (home site), Worlds of Bryce (is that still around?) there's tons of places..or just hang around here and ask questions. Hope this hasn't been either too simlistic, or too complicated..

I'd rather see that robot's girlfriend. I think she's made of HeavyMetal too.

Bandolin got it..;) It's what John Candy woulda looked like if he was a robot, or Den, or something..;)
Most of the 'wimmin' in the gallery are done in Poser (or Daz Studio, I'm branchin' out..;) They're mostly from Daz 3d.com. If you get Daz Studio (free from Daz), you can pose them, then export them into Bryce..try it once you have your sea legs about you..;)
As for getting the stars bigger?..;) don't touch the intensity, leave them at the default setting..but to be honest, they look a bit 'fake' to me..but whatever floats yer boat..;) have fun
@ Bandolin- I think there's enough Morphs, hair, clothing, etc., to make her, but the missus would 'dope slap' me if she caught me doing it..;)
