[Come in join the fun] Before and After Pictures

Hi all, I was flicking though some gossip mags of celebrity before and after pictures (good stuff) and it made me think about pictures. Good light, good make up, nice angles can make anyone look hot, and then even thought the above is not perfect alterations can always be made.

I'm just gonna post some of my most heavily 'operated' works:)
I hope everyone can contribute, it should be fun and interesting^_^

Great idea indeed Vanessa. This might be fun. Unfortunatly i didnt have that many photos on my harddrive since i recently copied most of them to DVDs. But ive showed this one before i think....before and after...... Come on people...show us! #:O) P.S. Might i add...that when i was putting these two together i forgot about an auction i was staying up to watch....and of course i lost the stupid thing just as i was saving this photo. AAAAARRRRRGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! A brand new light tent for $25 dollars slipped through my fingers...sniff...going to bed now....stayed up half the night for no good reason. #:o(

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

I decided to post a shot I took today in my garden (very late in the afternoon).

The almost leafless branches and the colours of the remaining leaves attracted my attention.

Some way this is a portrait of the Winter's sunny days in Portugal.

Oh yes most images benefit from a little postwork. Here's one I did recently. The original is smoke from incense sticks.

Just about all of my images need a bit of tweeking. This radio underwent what I'd say was an average ammount for me. Some need more, some less, but I couldn't live without my digital darkroom. Great submissions gang and a great idea for a thread Vanessa!

Very cool indeed Christian. And i agree with Kort...i too need to use RAW more. I only wish my cam had the option of saving both as RAW and JPEGs, cause it would be so much faster browsing through them and sorting out the decent ones. Moonbeam...lol! That makes the rest of us his starchilds i suppose....

Well man yer know, like usin' RAW, it's a reaaly mind blowin' concept like, 'Cos you can get cosmic colours.

(I use JPEG, not convinced RAW is a good thing with compact cams.)

Here is an example of a very extensive postwork job. It took 3 heavily edited photos to make the final image. Yes, I know the original traction engine is way blown out. And the pavement photo is not the exact same one used, but it is the same spot and a similar original exposure. I can't begin to tell you all the different stages this one went through. ;^] *SALUTE*

Here's a before and after of one I posted in my gallery. The weather wasn't really helping so I postworked it rather heavily (at least more than I normally do) and tried to give it a topgear kinda look.

I'm all for postwork (obvioulsy). I understand the view of purists, but feel creativity is truly explored once you get a photo into the editing program. Wonderful images you two, what a cool thread this turned out to be. =]

What's most wonderful of all,is that it allows you to put your own unique spin on an image...it gives you your 'hand',like you would have in painting.That's what I love most about it.I feel as if I'm 'painting'. -M :^)

Lot's of times I adjust the brightness and contrast, then a touch of unsharp mask. I find printing using the unsharp mask looks better on some papers. Cool thread Vanessa.

Among those without "heavy postwork" there are a lot where I would have taken the "after"-version as being an "original" shot... Andrea, your postwork methods are overwhelming. It is amazing what you pull from your photos, the potentials you see. Of your last batch there, my fave would have to be the lone pink flower petal surround by the desaturated blues. WOW!

I have to agree.Your postwork is wonderful.My favorite is the butterfly.It reminds me of the one in the middle of #24...I like that technique a lot!It lends itself perfectly to cards,etc. because text would look great with it.I may have to try that myself,if you don't mind! ;^)

Thanx Marlene(and Kort and everyone else of course as well). Why should I mind? Guess there are loads of people "out there" doing the same ;-) BTW: You're right, I used the same filter on those two images somewhere in the "course" of altering them... It's actually called "sun" and it "overexposes" the edges of the image leaving only the middle visible - but unfortunately also - besides altering the colours - leaves a dark spot as well :-( (See image...). So I then convert the image into b/w and just keep playing around afterwards...

Hi Andrea.I'm guessing that's a filter in PSP...(I use PS)...That's a nasty dark spot you have to work around.You'd never tell from your images though.They look perfect.Thanks for explaining,and congrats again. -M :^)
