Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
Any drive will do. I have poser on my C drive, and runtimes on my C drive. However, until my external drive gave up on me, I had my runtimes on E drive.

tip, partition the drive into 3 C: windows/system stuff, very small, 5gb is plenty for winxp D: major programs, poser/psp/etc E: runtimes, saved pics/projects/movies/etc, library drive the reason for it split up, is programs defragment quickly ie the file parts aren't sorted as efficiently as can be so easy to defrag a drive, and keep poser a bit faster drive C and D defrag like once a week drive E is more perm files, you and poser wouldn't really be moving/editing them much, so thats why they're seperate
i already have separate E and D drives though
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!

Hi Esther! Actually, "Logical Drives" or secondary partitions are slower. Let's say your 160gig HD is partitioned in 2(C & D). C will be faster to access then D. & if you had a second HD partitioned in 2. The first partition of that drive would be again faster then the second partition... But, Anxcon is correct! It easier to backup a smaller partition like 5-10 gig(C: for example) with just windows all setup nicely. That way if God forbid(it crashes bad), you'll be able to restore that in 5 minutes... ;-) Anywoo... Just remember to use "Correct Reference 1.1" available at this link. It will help fix "Non-relative" links in your library files(just read the technical bit on that in your email) :-)) Have a Great Day! MarcusOkay, so proggies on the C drive and my runtimes elsewhere. It's just that poser is so sluggish I was hoping I could find some way to speed it up. I put 2gig ram, and it did make it a little zippier. Love esther

Well, i wish i had your Mac Esther! :-)) But, i can build 3 PCs like mine for the price of 1 G5. So, it's mostly economics that tipped the balance. Cause, i like both Mac & PC... There are things you can do to speed things up a bit. "optimizing" WinXp for instance. You can easily disable 20+ services(That you will never use). I'll write you a tutorial on how to do that. The "footprint" of my WinXP pro is 105 megs in the RAM. Most people's would be between 160-200. That alone helps a lot. Also, my 3D Putter doesn't have any Norton utilities on it. The reason is simple, Norton apps take away lots of resources. Instead i remotely scan for viruses on it via my older putter. :-) Consider also, that i have only PPP. So, it's much faster to load 20 V3s + clothes. With P5 or P6, it would probably be more like 5-6 V3, then things would get sluggish My upcoming "Throne Room" will be a good test for your putter cause it will have lots of textures & around 150,000 polys. Dolce Sogno! Marcus
