Subject: Damn auto update!

Since the auto update to 5.09 or whatever I cannot import poser scenes. I can open old vue scenes with poser scenes in, but I cannot import any new poser scenes! I think I have to reinstall Vue don't I? :-(

After I updated, I had to go into Vue and point out where Poser exe was again...try that first before you reinstall everything BUT if it was the auto-installer, I first let it do its thing and it was corrupted - couldn't uninstall it either via Vue so had to do a clean install of Vue again then manually added the new update. My suggestion - turn off the auto installer!! :)

mine said it was corrupt too. Tried pointing it at poser again, even reset all options and tried again but no luck, fresh install time!

I reported this to e-on a few versions back and it still gives me errors if I try a rollback. This should have been fixed a few builds back but I see it is still a problem. I ahve since done all my updates manually and shut off the auto installer. No use having it if its going to cause all these problems. :(

Hm. The auto-installer was corrupt on my end too. But downloading the update and running it manually worked fine. Poser scenes also import fine. I used the full update, not the incremental. Maybe that helps? By the way, I'm on Windows XP SP2. Don't know if this issue also affect Macs.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

Don't know if this will add anything to the discussion, just relating what happened to me and how I handled it (not a procedure to be recommended, just an anecdote). I usually run all my Apps off-line (I unplug the cable...), unless I specifically go on-line for some reason. Yesterday, I forgot to unplug and started Vue 5. Then sat and waited whilst it downloaded update 05.09.02. When it got to "do you wish to install" (or whatever), I clicked "No" and continued with what I had intended to do in the 1st place. I was vaguely worried that I didn't know where the update had been placed, but reckoned I could find it if necessary. Today, I restarted Vue (off-line) and it Installed the update (there was nothing I could do about it). So I hoped for the best. I loaded the scene I'd been working on, and all was OK. Then I needed to add another figure to my scene. I have both Poser5 & 6 on my system, P5 on drive E: and P6 on drive C: (no specific reason - it just ended up that way). Anyway the figure I wanted to load into Vue was a P5 scene on the E: drive, but Vue only knows about P6 (and tries any relative paths from there, so, of course failing. Knowing this from experience, I Fired up P6, loaded the single-figure scene from the E: drive and saved back out (into the scene-folder I'm currently working on in Vue). Re-started Vue, loaded the figure and it worked 1st time:-) (OK - damp-squib ending, but thought I'd tell you anyway - just to show that it CAN work, sometimes..) My big niggle: There's NO WAY to stop the auto-update (unless you ALWAYS run off-line). To my mind, that's an invasion of privacy! There should be a "do you want to download update: yes/no" option.... Cheers, Diolma
