THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: OK, totally stupid, but I have forgotten how to create

new libary preset folders. I want to re-organise my presets when I get them transferred to this new system, but have totally forgotten how to create the new folders within the preset folders. I know how to get the files there, just can't remember how to make an empty folder to put them in.

In the presets folder in the bryce folder, there should be a file called "user.mat" Duplicate this and lebel it whatever you want. Placing it within a category of materials will display it as a separate group within bryce.

Use windows explorer. Go to your Bryce folder. Find the directory for objects, materials, etc. Make another directory in there with the installed and user directory and name it (mine's fred). When you open Bryce the new empty folder will be in your pull down menu.

You need to make sure that the empty preset files (either .obp or .mat) ARE really empty. Because if they aren't you'll have hidden files filling up the file and that can cause Bryce to crash - and if you're unlucky you also loose the entire file, it gets corrupted when Bryce crashes, and if you had loads of models in that file - tough! I try to keep the number of things in any preset file fairly low - as I can't remember how many causes Bryce to crash - plus I always keep spare empty preset files available... As the archives here are now virtually unsearchable, I couldn't find Peggy Walters site (the person who had empty preset files available on her site) and gave instructions on how to use them and other helpful tips... well I'm not sure how helpful in TIPS I could be, but... I'll put the empty preset files up on my website... see the link - for now I'll put them on the main page but later I'll have to have another page for them.

Too late to edit that message, but I've done it, the empty presets are now on my front page - look under the Omani Bus Shelter!
