Subject: Art Theft!

gradient ( ) posted Fri, 03 February 2006 at 11:51 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 9:42 PM

I have just done a bit of surfing and found that someone called entr0pik has posted 16 of my images over at deviantart. These images have been STOLEN from my gallery here at Rendorosity. For everyone's info....I am NOT entr0pik. This person has uploaded them complete with the Gradient Designs copyright...made up claims about the renders/photos, claims he did the work, claims he posts here at Rendo, and also claims to call himself "Gradient" I will be pursuing this at deviantart and also post this note in the Rendorosity copyright forum. I will not be uploading more images here at rendo until this has been resolved.

That sucks big time. But one good thing came out of it, I surfed your gallery. You have some awesome artworks!

I'm quite horrified that the moment. I hope that you will sort out. Please let us know of the developments.

Also send a email to admin here.
I will post this in the coord forum too.
Sorry to hear this. No matter where you post images, they are always avail to steal.
Sad isn't it. I looked there and yeah I sure see the same ones. First one I saw was Mocambo Sunset

Looks like everything has been removed from this guys deviantart gallery....for now.... Pretty upsetting situation...but I guess it goes with the territory. I suggest everyone do a little search now and then to see if their work has been "borrowed" illegally. Also let others know if you run across any of their work.

Zacko ( ) posted Sat, 04 February 2006 at 1:13 AM

WOW! Thats so awful. Sorry to hear that. What i cant understand about people like that....is what do they benefit from it? Taking credit for something someone else has done is beyond my comprehention. I feel bad for just using certain plug-ins cause it makes the image feel less like my own. Hope you can find a solution to this dilemma and that that member get permanatly banned from devianart...and anywhere else for that matter. Good luck. #:O)

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

Nobody ever thought mine were good enought to steal...sniff...sniff #:o(

Looks like my stolen Mocambo Sunset image made the "Daily Deviation".....I guess I should be proud of that....

could always post over there in the Rip Reporting Forum

oh nevermind.. guess not

*"From the Etiquette Policy:

Accusations of bannable offenses, ..and copyright violation reports are always to be addressed to the Policy Violation Administrators or Help Desk, and not directed at a particular deviant.

It's OK to post an original by a deviant, and a rip that's offsite. It's not OK to post the reverse."*

no public lynching of a deviant allowed :p

funny thing is.. that deviant is yourself.. or suppose to be.. impersonating you!

& hey congrats on the Deviation of the Day.. some consolation huh :/

Very sad ! Something I have heard a lot of recently.

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

Sorry to say, but technology makes it easy for "no talent" hacks to steal stuff like whats happened here! Make sure you have your "originals" in case ya need'em for backup proof!

Some people are under the impression that doing some postwork or cropping someone else's image....makes it their own! That's their twisted mentality it seems!

That's really awful, I know too how it feels, in the past somebody stole my wife's poetry and post it on their own website without permission. It's not a fault of RR, we all know it's easy to use others work no matter how much time you spent to protect your own work, or how big the note "COPYRIGHT" is, if they use "snagit" or printscreen, they will have it. Sad but true, I know this because my wife spent so many time to protect her website with a htmlguard script, nothing is safe !! I hope, that person will delete your work, he has no right to publish it, No way!! Ger

I forgot something: Now she don't use the html Guard anymore, because that JavaScript, some virus checkers read it as a "Trojan" but it is not. Now she is busy to change her work, her art and poetry goes together. She never use others work without permission, she always ask and give the credits. In the past somebody blamed her and left a link in a forum that she post images together with her poems without permission and thats not true, because I am sure my wife is very honest. Just want to let you know. Now she created her own style, easy to recognize because the words are in the art. With a sign in there. Here an example Ger

Hopefully you have registered copyright and can sick one of those blood thirsty lawyers on them. Deviant Art appears to be a site where you can sell your art? You would be entitled to any profits, court costs etc. etc. etc... Best of luck tracking them down. I get a lot of comments from people saying they want me to post bigger images... errrr I don't think so! Sad thing is this happens a lot and it always leaves me wondering how many more are out there for every one you catch? Brenda

http://nashville.lawinfo.com/signup.html Good idea....Art Theft can be dealt with via Litigation. Here is a Portal to "Evil Lawyers"....some specialize in Defamation Cases too.....as for the Administration here and Coord Forums, they are "Secret Societies" bound by NDA's...."Non Disclosure Agreements" and You will only hear back what they want You to hear. As for putting pressure on Renderosity....because they Advertise there, (at Deviant Art ) ... do You really think an Artist here is more important than "spreading the word of commerce". And if there is no "Public Lynching" of a Deviant at that Site, then You could always start a Thread in the Community Forum here, where Public Lynching is embraced and You could seek a bit of support there. Good luck in the recovery of Your Art and Your good Name.

Well, for me personally, theft would be the highest form of flattery, but it would still not be right! I hope this all gets worked out for you!

My comment on Rendo advertising on Deviantart is for everyone here. From the messages I have rec'd in the last few hours, it is apparent that art theft seems to be quite common over there. So my message is for all of you who post images here...don't be surprised to see them under someone else's name over at DA...a site that Renderosity supports.

gradient ( ) posted Sat, 04 February 2006 at 2:14 PM

Just forgot to add...that in order for this individual to have access to my images here @Rendo I think he needs to be a Rendo member....

Zacko ( ) posted Sat, 04 February 2006 at 2:27 PM

I would think that anyone has access to the images here, not only members. You only need a membership to post yourself and post comments.

I just wanted to thank everyone for their IM's, emails and help in getting this issue resolved. Special thanks go out to Mike (environaut) for his help in getting my images removed from the guy's deviantart site. Thanks also to Doug (dBgrafix) for raising the issue with coords and admin here.

Zacko ( ) posted Sat, 04 February 2006 at 3:30 PM

I can assure you gradient. You dont need to be a member to browse the galleries here. You get bumped to the log in-page because of cookies or something. I know this cause most of my family have my gallery bookmarked and they usually go from there to browse the rest of the gallery as well and none of them are members. Having said that, i dont doubt for a second that the person in questiong is a member here. #:O)

John I am checking that possibility. Mind you , if a person who is not a member clicks on you user name, they can view you gallery. I have yet to try that with our new changes, but non members could always view a single persons entire gallery. Image theft takes place all over the internet. Some who realy do not want this to happen type the name across the center, ruining it for any type of crop. If I do find this guy is a member here, he will be banned.

Ger50 ( ) posted Sat, 04 February 2006 at 4:20 PM

Zacko. Thats true, Ilona said to me that you can surf if you are not a member, just to click a link, but then you can't comment. My sister in law always look at our works without being a member. Try it out Gradient, for Example vlaaitje's link. Be sure that you are not online at RR and paste the link. http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Y&Artist=vlaaitje Ger

gradient ( ) posted Sat, 04 February 2006 at 4:27 PM

Yes Ger, I am aware that you can get in through the member's link...but how does someone get the link...I didn't give my link out to anyone. Anyone surfing in to the main Rendo page would not know what link to use. Thx for the comments by the way...much appreciated.

gradient ( ) posted Sat, 04 February 2006 at 4:34 PM

I just tried vlaaitje's link...I can only get into her gallery. I can not get from her gallery to anyone else's without logging in as a member. So, I cannot surf the galleries at random without logging in...unless I'm missing something here....

In youth, we learn....with age, we understand.

Ger50 ( ) posted Sun, 05 February 2006 at 2:34 AM

mmmm Yes you are right !! I tried it out and went to the galleries in the top. But after you click it you must fill your users name and password. So that's strange, only if you have a link you can look at without being a member. Maybe there is a way to use that option here too, because on other websites you can, only you can't comment work. TwoPynts ( ) posted Mon, 06 February 2006 at 2:33 PM

I had problems sending someone a link this morning, but it appears to be working now. Just change the end of the URL to the member's gallery you want to view. No, the general public would not normally have access unless you send them a link. Sorry to hear of your problems Gradient. Someone at Dev was stealing my wife's work and claiming it as her own a while back. I got her banned from DeviantArt, but they really made me jump through hoops to get it done. It is sad people feel they have to pretend to be someone else to feel worthwhile. Must be a hollow feeling though. I personally have no idea how to check the web for my images. They could be in use anywhere, under any name. So far I haven't been considered theft worthy, I hope.
