Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 18 5:11 pm)
Nothing simple about it. The poser 5/6 Faceroom is actually a customized version of facegen specifically licensed. It will only work with the poser 5 and 6 figures and certain figures released by E-frontier (miki and koji, I believe). The licensing for facegen is also somewhat limiting, but perfect if it is just for your own use. The heads exported are it's own heads, which do not readily fit on any poser figure's body. Although the search feature here is now effectively wrecked, when they fix it, you'll be able to do a search on that term in these forums and find a great many posts having to do with facegen. You could use the heads by simply replacing the present ones with the new one as a static prop, but getting them to effectively work -- with expressions, for example -- would require you to essentially create a conforming figure for each one, and that might take ya a bit of time...
thou and I, my friend, can, in the most flunkey world, make, each of us, one non-flunkey, one hero, if we like: that will be two heroes to begin with. (Carlyle)
face gen is a whole lot better than the poser face shop at making heads. you can import the head as a wavefront obct and swap the object for the head. ynsaen is right about not being able to manipulate it other then on an xyz axis and bend.it's not too bad if you do the character pose you want first. do any head changes in face gen then swap it in poser. i found because i know nothing really about 3d or texturing that i had to do some postwork in photo shop to sort out the point of connection (the neck) billy :)
thanks guys - will definitely do some searching before I make up my mind on this one as not sure whether it'd be more hassle than it's worth - would probably be beyond my skills to join it seamlessly, so unless I gave all my characters scarves not sure if I could really use the Facegen models - will try playing with an existing standalone head OBJ and see how I get on - not sure who Facegen is aimed at really, as presumably you'd have the same issues with connecting the head to a body in any 3D package unless it lets you specify the number of neck vertices etc btw, anyone know any other products that would do what facegen does, but also adds a full body? - had a look at iClone as saw an article/link in 3D world, but that looks like a 'toy' to just create avatars as far as I could tell from the demo thanks again Sean

hi - was looking at a product called Facegen Modeller to give me a bit more control over creating real-life 3d heads, then hopefully bringing them into Poser to do the character animation Just a couple of questions - has anyone tried this product, and know if it makes a better job of 3D heads from photos than the Poser Face room ? Secondly, any suggestions on how this would fit into the workflow - as I understand it, Facegen Modeller just exports heads as OBJ's, but not sure how i could then incorporate the new head onto a Poser character - would it actually be worth the aggravation, or is there a simple way to use heads modelled in another program with the bodies/torsos etc of the standard Poser characters without a massive amount of stitching and welding parts together any help/thoughts would be appreciated thanks Sean
