do you have a texture map on that area? if so, try removing the texture map, and rendering it without. if you still get the wierd look, then its normals. otherwise you have run into the same problem I get of the UV coordinates going all screwy on you when importing.

if you cant figure it out, pass the model this way, and I will run it through some polygon processes in Polytrans, aswell as try outputting it to several different formats that poser supports for you. this is what I do to most of the problem" objects I get. it fixes about 95% of them

That looks distinctly like double-sided polygons. The normals are probably all facing the right way, but due to z-buffering issues, you are seeing some of the back faces and some of the front faces. You can either: 1. get rid of all the 'inside' polygons (the ones that are facing the inside of the garment). 2. add a displacement to the material that's applied to the outside layer of the dress. 3. disable back-face rendering.

Uhm, ok I'm completely baffled then. It sure looks like double-sided polys to me. Could you send me a .obj file of a simple single flat polygon that shows the same problem?

HiI'm getting dark patches on some imported obj files.
In the picture, both the bodice top and long skirt are lofted in maya. Both are converted to polygons and exported.
I have tried lots of different methods of converting the skirt, rebuilding, smoothing etc, but always the same result.
Any thoughts would be great to hear.
Regards
