Subject: Forum Poll

When you look at the galleries, do you just select the "Galleries" link at the top of the page and look through all of the new art that has been uploaded or do you only look at specific categories? I ask because I've noticed threads in other forums where people seemed to look only at their gallery and I wonder how widespread this is.

it reads "all", "all" when I click on gallery link. maybe that's the default.

Tyger_purr ( ) posted Fri, 10 February 2006 at 2:26 PM

on the rare occasion that i go to the gallery i only go thru the poser images.

@Miss Nancy Yep, by default it reads all. My question isn't directed toward whether that's the way it's (the link) supposed to be, though. In my case, that's what I want to view. The poll is to get some idea how common that desire is, or if most people focus in on specific areas.

99% of the time when I look at a gallery image it's because a link was posted in the forum. When I do that I'll usually check out a few pages of thumbnails of that person's gallery and click on a few that catch my eye. Things that catch my eye: Appealing colours Ethereal appearance Beautiful/Handsome face Technique/effect Thumbs that I'll never click on: Boob (especially impossibly large and gravity defying), butt, and violence. I have no problem with nudity when it's tastefully done, but when it's used as a "draw", that doesn't interest me. I can probably count on both hands the number of times that I've just gone to the gallery and "browsed" at random.

I look at all the gallery images because there seems to be much more creativity in those galleries (artists in the other galleries don't seem to have the female figure (or male figure for that matter) as the only thing they can post). The Poser gallery seems to be more pinup oriented (even tho people may say they don't do pinups) and that gets boring. Like right now, I checked the first 2 pages of the Poser gallery and out of 36 images, 31 were of some scantly clad female as the main theme of the image.

In the past, I've tended to visit the galleries perhaps 2-4 times each month. Or even less. And always with "What's New" at the head.

However: recently, my browsing habits have changed. I am now checking out the Lightwave gallery regularly. About once a day. I am learning the program, so admiring the images/models created by others is a good way to get some inspiration, I think.

Especially with images like this.

Depends on the mood Im in. Most of the time Ill only look at one specific gallery at a time such as, 2D,Mixed Media, or Poser.

Ditto Swamp...but I tend to pass by the Poser gallery all together...no matter what my mood. I use Poser all time, but get tired of wading thru all the size FFF boobs. So, I just don't look anymore.

interesting. that first one is mostly poser models, largely bought at daz. that's stonemason's urban future on either sides of the corridor, and jvanfleet1's glitch standing on stonemason's "the core" in the foreground. by the way, glitch's creator is The AntFarm in the store and jvanfleet1 in daz forums (i note this because i found it kind of confusing). if you happen to check out his website, then you also know in real life he's john van fleet the artist of works such as shadow's fall (vertigo), batman: the ankh, batman: the chalice (dc), and typhoid mary (marvel). gallery issue: i only occassionally hit up the gallery because there's such a high signal to noise ratio. when i do, i rarely filter and never for poser. when i do filter i filter for product showcase, comic art, mixed medium, illustration and photography (in that order).

Time is a factor with me. If I have the time I look using the 'all' option. I like art in all its forms. If I am busy I go straight to the Poser gallery. Helen

Tyger_purr: on the rare occasion that i go to the gallery i only go thru the poser images. That explains why you've never commented on any of my work. :) I post to the gallery of the app I did the final render in, even if the work centers around a poser figure. I always figured the poser gallery was for the 'less developed' work. :p When I browse, I tend to browse by all, or I'll drop into the Vue gallery from time to time to tract down something or avoid the 'naked unmorphed stock pose stock lighting stock camera angle possette / vicky / aiko run of the week'.

Yep. Poser products they are -- but I seriously doubt that any of them were originally modeled in Poser.

;)

In fact, if the millenium figures are imported to Lightwave: they are merely returning home again. Because that's were they were born in the first place.

Just like spawning salmon, or some such........

I usually hit the new stuff, but find most Poser art getting a bit boring ... its more of the same over and over again, in fact, I've nearly stopped using purchased stuff myself and am learning modeling and trying to improve my own texturing , etc so as to achieve a different than cookie cutter look. The photography gallery is great, as is 2D ... I find myself going there more and more, but I usually start in ALL/ALL as that's where you start when you schoose the Galleries topic :)

Depends on how much time I have. If enough I browse what's new/all, if not I start with Bryce and then goto Poser. The 2 main apps I have. When browsing all the thumb or title is very important in what I view. What I view will vary from time to time. Some great artwork in the 2D and Vue cats. Have a great day and keep making art.

I'm only visit specific galleries, I always browse by subject. That's saves me lot's of time, that way I don't have to go through 100's of naked vickies in a temple.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

xenophonz - no, i know that. poser isn't a modeling tool. that said, i don't believe those any of those products (including unimesh figures)had a lightwave distribution, so i'm guessing the artists using them in lightwave have to convert them back in some way (scaling, at least). iirc, stonemason uses 3d studio max and zbrush. i'm more commenting on the fact that the person did not model the scene themselves. while i've seen vue, carrara, cinema 4d and others used as basically a renderer, i haven't seen that done with lightwave or 3ds max (due to pricing, i'm sure). so i find it interesting.

"poser isn't a modeling tool" Don't let Dr Geep here that.
