Yes, fellow Brycians, lend me your ears, your modelling skills, and your permission to use your hard work in this month's challenge. I need swiss cheese! i want it to be rounded at the corners and i want small rounded holes in it. those of you with better booleaning skills than i will understand. and yeah... i can't boolean to save my life on this one. thanks, if you could, please, thanks, a thick and tall triangular slice of swiss cheese! danke drac

S'not bad guv, but Oi think it needs t'be a l'il bit paler in colour. More yellowish-like.

An old render I did of a cheese prop in freestuff, not rounded at the corners though.

Are you sure you couldn't use a nice hunk of kasu marsu instead? It's more fun to model all the little maggots.

Is this any good Drac?

Incidentally, those holes are technically called "eyes," and the proper Swiss name for the cheese is Emmentaler (also spelled Emmental or Emmenthaler). Appenzellar and Tilsiter also has eyes. Just my 0.02 worth :) LOL

Thank you Ardiva. I ran and did a quicky wedge shape in Wings, beveled the corners a few times, imported it into Bryce and booleaned it with Bryce primitive spheres. Then I stole AS's cheese texture, which makes me pretty cheesey as well, lol.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Mon, 13 February 2006 at 9:49 PM

That's why it's there, lol. AS

LOL AS. Why am I not suprised it was you who supplied the trap?
Great works of cheese by all. You actually made me hungry. :D

weeee! cheese!
cheeserender.jpg
bryce and wings. Blurry reflections and blurry transmissions on, cheese material is 25% transparent, 5% reflective, and 85% diffuse. Shadows disabled, lit with a clump of 13 lights with no shadows.

Render time was 27 minutes, I'm setting up a shadow version to render overnight, it's giving me 6 hours on the clock...i'm hoping for faster shadow rendering in bryce 6?!
:)

Oh and the "end grain" wood texture was made from a mixed'n'matched bundle of wood textures grabbed from lemog's texture site, which can be found here. (scroll down to get to the textures section)

It's very nice 2048x2048 texture, but I can't really post it because it's based of his textures.

Drac, you don't need cheese, you're cheesy enough already. :D Later, bro.

Very nice max! Though I think the cheese is a bit too transparent.

Very cool render Max! It almost looks like you have some SSS going on there in the cheese.

draculaz ( ) posted Tue, 14 February 2006 at 1:07 PM

many thanks to all! how did you manage to get that shape out of wings without being hollow inside? drac

marcfx ( ) posted Tue, 14 February 2006 at 1:10 PM

Well, mine was only made in Bryce....... :(

Smile, your dead a long time :)

draculaz ( ) posted Tue, 14 February 2006 at 1:19 PM

see, the problem was that i could make it in wings, but i couldn't make the holes in it because when i booleaned them out, you could see the holes inside. like the obj or 3ds is empty inside and it just cut out cylinders instead of carving out spheres. get what i'm saying? how did you manage to do it? :)

madmax_br5 ( ) posted Tue, 14 February 2006 at 1:29 PM

When you first import it, open the smooth dialog and make sure "treat as solid object when booleaned" or w/e is checked. Then set it to positive and off you go!

Now I can't get Python's "Cheese Shop" sketch out of my head. :^) "It's not much of a cheese shop, really, is it?" "Finest in the district, sir." "And what leads you to that conclusion?" "Well, it's so clean." "Well, it's certainly uncontaminated by cheese."
