Subject: So what's the current consensus on 5.09?

Phantast ( ) posted Sat, 18 February 2006 at 2:58 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 11:43 AM

Should we install it or not? I see a lot of complaints about problems, but maybe they are a small minority?

LordWexford ( ) posted Sat, 18 February 2006 at 3:50 AM

It seems from reading the various forums that a minority of users are experiencing problems. As no one has yet (as far as I know) identified a common factor that is responsible, then I guess it's a case of try it and see.

From what I've read, those who have problems let Vue auto update itself, ( setting is in your preferences), and at the time, the installer was corrupted. It is fixed now.

I updated a while ago and haven't had any problems.

No problems here with the manual install. The Auto caused a few issues, but a reinstallation of the manual one cleared that up.

Irish ( ) posted Sat, 18 February 2006 at 7:27 AM

Yes, I agree - the auto install (which I have now turned off) was the problem for me. After uninstalling the entire program, I reinstalled it, manually downloaded the full update and everything now seems to be humming. :)

During the Cornucopia issues, I gave up and went back to the out of the box 5.07 version and have stayed there until the 5.09 came out of beta. I held my breath and then updated and (fingers/toes crossed) have had no troubles at all.

No problems here. Several serious problems I used to have (losing the interface when using other software) seem to have been fixed by 5.09 too.

No problems except those related to the usual memory limitations I find with the Open GL implementation of VI5.

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

For once in a lifetime the update and Vue is working better than usual.

Thing is I haven't tested it to the limits since I am not paid to beta test and write an infinite amount of tech support tickets. I just accept vue for what it is marginal software with a lacking QA department.

One thing that is off is the handles on objects stretch disproportionately. I say install the new update.

The new build installed automatically, so when I selected remove the last update it removed it, but then I got this message. Have any of you gotten this? IYO should I reinstall Vue from the CD's or do you think this is ok? Preferences > "Automatically check for new software updates!" Is this what I need to "uncheck" so I can install the update manually? Thanks

Irish ( ) posted Sat, 18 February 2006 at 2:30 PM

In make sure auto install does not install any more updates for you, go into Options and make sure down near the bottom, that Automatically Check for new software updates is unchecked. I got that message as well, so I had to uninstall Vue and reinstall again. :)

That error has been reported to tech for a long time and it has not been fixed with the new update. Why it hasn't been fixed is beyond me. :)

The Serial Number starts with VUE5INF; the install number beginning with INST is created when you install the product. When asked for the serial number, use the one off the CD that starts with VUE5INF. It's confusing Lin

No problems noticed here. Didn't install until 2 weeks ago, so probably missed the broken one.

Lin you said "The Serial Number starts with VUE5INF; the install number beginning with INST is created when you install the product. When asked for the serial number, use the one off the CD that starts with VUE5INF. It's confusing" Lin, I have both Vue Infinite CD's (Extra's CD and Application CD) but I don't see a serial number anywhere could you please tell me where is it on the CD? I don't know where to look for my serial no. If someone can help that would be great. I just found a number on the inside of the cd near the cd hole. It doesn't start with VUE5INF but is that the serial no.?

The serial number is on a license/registration card that came in the box :)

I had a problem with manual install. It wouldn't render the sky in a very simple scene. Memory issue, I think, but it's one 5.08 doesn't have.

I went back to 5.08, and I'm staying there, even though it means I can't buy Cornucopia3D content. I wasted a whole weekend installing and reinstalling Vue, trying to figure out the problem. The problem is 5.09.

svdl ( ) posted Mon, 20 February 2006 at 10:17 PM

The automatic install didn't work, the manual install was fine. Had one weird problem: a fairly simple scene that would consume more and more and more memory when rendering, until it hit the 2 GB limit and crashed. Stopping and resuming finally worked.

Please clear up my confusion. I finally found my ser. no and reinstalled Vue Infinite. Then I went into Preferences and unchecked "Automatically Check for new software updates". I then quit Vue and installed the 5.09 update. How do I know if it installed automatically or manually? It seemed to just install 5.09 the same way as the first time. After I deselected "Automatically Check for new software updates" in the preferences I closed Infinite and installed 5.09 did I need to first reopen Vue Infinite for the change to take place? Sorry but I am paranoid now that it didn't install manually. Please help!

Irish ( ) posted Tue, 21 February 2006 at 11:40 AM

What update did you install? Did you manually download it from E-on site? If not, I would suggest that is the one you should install. After you install the new update, go into Vue Infinite and uncheck the automatic update option. We're all paranoid or we wouldn't be here :) Best of Luck! :)

LMcLean ( ) posted Tue, 21 February 2006 at 11:53 AM

Irish, Yes I downloaded it from e-on website but how is the manual install any different from the auto install? I mean it just installed 5.09 and didn't ask me to do anything manually. and did I have to restart Vue Inf. after I unchecked "automatically check for new software updates" for the changes to take place? because I didn't I just directly installed the 5.09 update.

Irish ( ) posted Tue, 21 February 2006 at 4:59 PM

By manually, I mean that you go to E-on's site and download the update manually - then you click on it to install it. Auto install if you have it checked, will automatically update from E-on if you open Vue, whenever there is an update. If, like me you installed the complete update, it wiped out my settings so I had to change things to my personal settings again. :)

LMcLean ( ) posted Tue, 21 February 2006 at 6:40 PM

Irish, I downloaded the update from e-ons website and unchecked "Automatically Check for new software updates" then installed the update. I haven't had any problems yet "crosses fingers". I am on a mac and I hope 5.09 is more stable though. 5.08 kept giving me fatal errors. Thanks for your help!
