Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
Ron...is that "fair"? I am so unclear as to what can or cannot be sold or redistributed. I figure...with the P4 male or female...and even pulling strands of the P4 hair...well..it is still based on P4. When does the mesh cross over into the land of being "mine"? Or, since you need P4 in order to use one of my files...is that okay?
heyas; if a cr2 (character library file) does not have embedded geometry, you can distribute that cr2. so if you open a basic poser figure, fiddle the morph dials and save it to the library, yes, you can distribute that. if you get more complicated with your character, and add props, hair, clothing, etc, then you run into trouble. prop geometry is usually embedded, so if you are using a copyrighted mesh, you can't distribute that cr2/pz3. i'm not sure if the hair uses pointers or embedded geometry, i expect it is the latter. if you use free goodies as props/hair, etc; then distributing the character with those items depends on getting permission from the creator of those things. (ie: you'd have to ask kozaburo about distributing a character with his hair on it). as to the ultimate question of whether or not tweaking some morph dials constitutes something that you can/should sell... well, that's more of a grey area. technically, there is nothing to stop you from doing so, as long as you follow the copyright protection guidelines. whether people believe things like that are worth buying is up to the individual person. opinions vary. :)
