Hi all, Just curious to know how many people still use M1 or M2 ? .. seems to me that he is a much better character than M3 ever was. regards, Andrew

I have both. I use M3 occassionally because I have several excellent characters that I like to use for him but I do prefer M2. Plus I have a lot more clothing items for him than I do for the others.

I still use M2 on occasion, but I have to admit, I almost never use M1 (just a side note, that was the first thing I ever bought from DAZ, back when they were Zygote). I use M1 lo-res now and then for quicky stuff that I just want to do "sketch" or "pre-vis" stuff for. M2 is good, but he's.... difficult to make look different. He always looks like himself. I admit that I have seen a number of people who can get some really GOOD M2 characters, but I don't have much luck getting rid of his lantern jaw and heavy brow. His features are good, but they're so distinctive they make him almost immediately recognizable (note: almost; I have seen a very few M2 characters who were really different!) bonni

I think the real question should be, who uses any of the Mikes. People always complain about not having enough "stuff" for the male characters, but look in the galleries. There are very, very few images using the males, period. The few I have posted get very few views and even fewer comments. Some will say that's because there is so little "stuff" for him, but I really don't think that's the case at all. I do some commercial work occasionally and for whatever reason, most of these projects do call for more male characters than females. This is when it would be nice to have more stuff with lots of variety.

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

I have M3 never used him,not even once...
I use M2 as my main male figure until Domus 3 will be ready!
The reason is I have many clothes and stuff for him.
I got bored to start gathering stuff for the 3rd generation figures so I stayed to M2-V2 because I have so many things for them!
I also use M2LoRes very much!
There is no differense on P5-6 than the higher resolution version...
However, yes his face is quite difficult to Un-Mike...

I still like it and use it a lot togheter with David and Apollo now. I never liked M3 and maybe I will use it a little more now just because of M3 Revised. But I hope that M4 will eventually be an upgrade to M2.

pitklad - the M3ReducedResolution figure is very popular with my friends over at Poser Club Japan. Free M3RR things on-site and off-site links there. But you must know how to read Japanese. Just FYI only. All - here is my bishie M2, based on a manga character.

I use M2 rather than M3. I like M2 better because it's easy to morph its figure (no need to install extra morphs like M3). PLUS, in my art, M3 looks far too realistic. I'd like to keep "doll" like feeling in my CG because, with my skill, it's very hard to create super-real CG. So I decided to stick with less realistic, or let's say, "doll-like" M2 for now.

I use Mike 2 in the majority of my scenes requiring males, but whatever figure I use, I employ those that have additional morph sets created by Beth "Capsces". They add so much versatility to a character! In the posted example, both the Doctor and Davros were shaped with "Boris for Michael". Of course, Beth has a set for Michael 3, so I should see what it can do. Sincerely, Bill

I use mike2. he's a great figure, i have been using m3 revisited (by pdxjims) most lately. But if you want a square jawed, muscular hunk-o-man, m2 is the way to go. He's really good to use in a scene with more than one male, for instance with david, because they have 2 completely different looks. I abandoned poor mike 1 the day m2 came out.

I tend to use M2 and either of the P5 or P6 males. Agreed there is very little available. It seems every day there are three new V3 characters in the RMP, and a free one every other day. Male characters are much harder to come by.

x2000 ( ) posted Sun, 19 February 2006 at 8:26 AM

Definitely M2 (and V2). I have the free M3 and V3, but I've never used them. Maybe some day... Of course, I still use Dork and Posette, too, so what do I know? ;)

Virtua36 ( ) posted Sun, 19 February 2006 at 8:28 AM

I like M2 more than M3,because I find him easier to morph. His muscles look more realistic.I've bought M3 and his morphs in 2004 but never finished a render with him.

I do, M2 is alot better than M3, M3revisited, David or any of the other male figures.

I had alway wished someone would have made an outfit for him like the one above but no one ever did.

Ok lets check out the figure of mike3: Mike 3 poses better then mike 2 aside from the injection morphs mike 3 shoulders are in better condition and do not stick out like mik 2's shoulders.

Mike 2:
Mike 2 is limited if your doing younger characters, I have seen the 3rd party morphs to make him young.
His shoulders stick out and im not happy about that and his neck needs some work too.
If your doing strong man figures you can pump him up better then mike 3 and he does have alot of morphing clothes.

I belive mike 2 could be updated as a injection figure and be made better but he serves more as a strong man then Mike 3 in his current state.

Both figures have thier uses and because they have different uses they are equally good figures.

I use him once or twice a year if the outfit is needed but he has proportion problems that make him sort of unusable for a good portion of my stuff. If I use him as a reference, artists call me on off proportions, if I use M3 it works okay.

aeilkema ( ) posted Sun, 19 February 2006 at 10:17 AM

I only use M1 & M2, never use M3. M3 is wasting to much harddisk space and taking up to much memory with all of the injections needed to get him going anywhere. But these days even m1/2 are more and more being replaced by James in my renders.

I never got M2 (unless you count 'M2/3rds' as part of the M3 free download..;), but I use Mike Lo-res (I call him 'Milo'..;) on a fairly regular basis (can't get stuff online, long story) since I don't have the morphs for M3..in fact, just used him last night..;)

I like M2 and use him a lot with characters and textures from Runtime DNA - there is much for him there. Also the King texture and any textures by Quim are great! I use him as much as M3.

M2 really shines as a figure if you want crazy insane muscled up characters. But to me, M2's face was too limiting, his body too bulky, and he had a strange looking chest. M3 is more my speed. I use him 90% of the time. Hiro, Apollo, and Koji I use the rest of the time. I haven't touched M2 in years except to do the policelineup of the male characters. Doing that made me realize, M2 wasn't too bad. bB

DgerzeeBoy ( ) posted Mon, 20 February 2006 at 12:50 AM

I still think M2 has no peer. David comes close, and is very versatile, but M3 is an embarrassment. For realism, his body is an evolutionary step backward from M2, and will almost always show the limitations in his mesh when appying anything but the simplest poses--terrible, taffy-like neck, unrealistic arm musculature--I almost never use him.

Well I originally raised this interesting thread because I think M2 is still so much better than M3, and it would be a pity to see him disappear into history. You can make a really good physique out of M2, but M3 always seems to look like a stick insect. I also believe that all of the other main male figures (D3, James, Apollo, Dork) are much better than M3. The attached image displays how versatile M2 is. This is M2 and using Bishonen for M2, which I consider one of the most beautiful packages that I have ever bought.

jenay ( ) posted Mon, 20 February 2006 at 8:01 AM

I am still using M1 from time to time. (I never bought M2). But there are only few good characters available. I also got M3 for free (but only the base, without morphs): never used him. I also have M3reduced resolution (with all morphs), used him a couple of times, tried to create some unique characters, but I think he looks always the same with his slightly slanted eyes ...
