Same price a D200 and it is just an upgraded 20D with the things it should have had to start with - dream on Canon.

Actually, it looks to be a bit cheaper than the D200. I agree it could have used a few more new/improved features, but what it really comes down to will be what type of lenses you have invested in. For first time DSLR buyers, it's cheaper than 20D price will be nice, and the improvements are nothing to sneeze at. On the 2nd page of that galbraith article under What's Missing, it gives a pretty good comparison of the pros/cons between the new 30D and D200. Thanks for the link azy.Kort Kramer - Kramer Kreations
Well yes it is a fraction cheaper than the D200, but not much. It is a lot more expensive than a 20D. Depends how many cash back vouchers Canon give with it. It makes the 20D look like a reasonable buy. It hasn't got 350 worth more features than a 20D.

Just another option for those who are debating the jump to DSLR. I doubt its enough to make current 20d'ers upgrade though! Probably geared to Rebels 300 and 350XT owners...looking for a bit more oomph!.
Bet the Canon forums are all "a buzz" about the news! Some get so wrapped up in new specs and features that don't ever get used. They just gotta have it,no matter what! Guess its the nature of that beast called marketing! LOL!

I dont think that the new 30D specs are too much of a surprise, especially after the 1D II facelift. The spot meter is a good carrot to dangle, for people like myself using a 20D it isnt likely to rise too much of an eyebrow, even if it had been 10MP it wouldnt represent a major upgrade. There isnt a major difference in image print size between 8.2 and 10MP, getting quality A3+ prints from a 20D isnt a problem, if you really need more than that you are really looking at a 5D or 1Ds II. From the Canon pov and IMO this is more likely to appeal either to people that change their camera on a regular basis (yes there are plenty) I know some that do so that ther camera is never out of warrantee. Most likely are people that are using a 10D or 300D thinking of getting something a little more substantial. Lastly people thinking of making the jump to a DSLR, wont be disapointed. The APS-C sensor is likely to continue for some time, and this is a very viable choice for those that shoot allot of wildlife, and represents a much cheaper option than buying super telephoto lenses. Whether the Nikon D200 is worth 400 more than the 20D is pretty subjective, but the 5D is defiantly worth 400 more than the D200. The 30D is most likely a good move on Canons part, 10D/300D users upgrade to the 30D and 20D users upgrade to the 5D, if that happens, than it is job done as far as Canon are concerned. The 30D price tag looks about right, it is RRP not street price so will probably its the retailers around 900 again IMO I am happy with these specs, I thought it may cause a dilemma between the 30D or 5D but it hasnt, is fact is has helped my decision, to have a very good APS-c 2nd body with a very good FF 1st body

The Canon forums I visit are all wondering what is the point of the 30D, what they are talking about is the new EF 85 mm F1.2 L II now that is a fast lensEggiwegs! I would like... to smash them!
Looks like the same clever marketing move that Nikon made with the D70/D70s. Add a few little upgrades...and boom...you've just extended the product life. With technology changing so rapidly these days, it's a very clever way to keep sales active and buy some time till your real "new" product comes out.
In youth, we learn....with age, we understand.

Here ya go buddies, straight from Canon.Question the question. Answer the question. Question the
answer...
I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP
Most intriguing, is the new EFs lens, that would appear to have L lens scpc without the L designation, defiantly L price tag! Flipping L lol Still not that I would bother as it wont fit a film body or FF body, just intriguing!
