I've been trying to come up with a list of the best 'bits and pieces', such as tongue, lacrimal, and eye textures. If you don't mind, could you look at the 11 tongue textures above and vote for your favorite? Some of these are free and some are commercial. Thanks very much! SnowS

I was gonna say no. 8, but I'll go with no. 7. The texture in 8 is good, but the color is too purple. I think the best combination of texture and color is no. 7, so there you have my vote. :) Intersting topic, tongues are often neglected in textures, especially free textures, cause people just don't use tongues that often in images. 7 and 8 immediately struck me as being the best.

7 & 8 I don't like the glossy highlights on the others.

7, 8 - they look like raw hamburger, but all the others are too shiny/smooth.

7 and 8 look like they have good bump maps attached, which is what makes them more immediately realistic - they don't have that smooth gloss where the light hits the side. If 10 had a bump map (or perhaps one that's better, if it has one) I would choose that above 8.

If you take off the Shine from them they all look good Just MHO :}

1 and 10 look most realistic to me 2 and 4 look too pale 5 has thrush (sorry) and 9 is too smooth (IMHO)

I thought 2, 4 & 5 all had thrush! Ouch Ouch Ouch!

I like 7 & 8 best, the others have too much gloss and/or the wrong colors. 9 would be good too if it had a bump map and not so much shine.

I changed my mind. The more I look at it the more I like 7.

#7 definitly is the best.

#8 is good too but it's too "purple" #2, #4, and #5 look like the mouth has "Thrush", a fungal infection of the mouth.

Wow, thank you very much for the responses so far. :) I'm a little busy right now, but I'll post more information on the choices later today. I put the glossy shine there mainly to be able to better visually separate the tongue from the lips. Also, color isn't quite as important as the realism of the texture itself, so if the color is the only thing preventing you from voting for a particular tongue, please mention it like Sabra did. Photoshop can fix that right up (and I'll share any Hue/Sat settings). :) Thanks again, SnowS

OK, some details on these tongues: - My personal choices before posting this poll were 4 and 6, mainly because I looked over dozens of photos while comparing these and noticed that their tongues were usually either slightly more pink than reddish or that they were often colored similarly to the lips. Now I think almost all of these can give excellent results with some color adjustments. - 7 is ahead on votes by far, but you'll probably be surprised as to where it's from. It's from the first of the DAZ Ethnicity texture sets (the lightest skinned one). 8 got a lot of votes too, and that tongue is from the second of the DAZ Ethnicity textures. - 1 is from Adro, a dark texture for Michael 3. I tried it out because he has some of the best eyes I've ever used if you can remove the painted-on reflections. Seeing how this poll is going well, I'll try and do an eye one soon too. :) I'll reveal where all of the tongues came from soon, maybe tomorrow. Thanks again, any and all replies are appreciated. I'd say 7 was the best or perhaps 3. Sorry but to me the others look a bit like illustrations from a medical textbook.

gimme some tongue :P 7 & 8 if I had to choose,only because they seem to be the only ones using anykind of bump or spec map. None of them make use of sss or any kind of translucency which is what makes something fleshy like a tongue look real.they all look a bit plastic to me Cheers Stefan

Here are the textures where these tongues are from. Next time I'll be sure to reduce the specularity, since it does make them look a little too much like plastic.

Very interesting, thanks. The results make sense to me. Morris is an excellent texturist with great attention to detail. I see a lot of character sets with very basic textures for the tongue, gums and teeth. But these parts can be essential for realistic portraits. Maybe I'll make some partial mats for applying just the teeth and tongue maps from the International set :-) I'll be interested to see any further results of this kind. Karen :-)

Finally, here are some edited and last-minute additions. The numbers next to the edited DAZ Ethnic 2 are the Hue/Saturation/Lightness values I changed in Photoshop 7 to get that result. I don't have the values for that edited Dean tongue, sorry. The Bits Again tongues are included in a merchant resource package for sale here on Renderosity. These are very useful sets for building your own commercial textures, but the tongues might need a little color correction. I tried quickly editing one (as shown), but I think it will take a little more time to do properly. SamTherapy: Heh, do that many people spell tongue incorrectly? I see far more people using "rediculous" which drives me nuts (unless it's really an accepted spelling now, but I sure didn't learn it). :) Karen: Thank you, I hope these results can be helpful. Yes, Morris is a great artist; I just didn't expect to find the best tongues in those DAZ sets. I use partial MATs for epplying eyebrow and eyelash transmaps all the time, they sure make it easier to experiment. ;) Thanks again, SnowS

I'd vote for 6 and 7 if I narrowed it down to 2 and I'd sway more towards 7...if that helps.

This is hard. I'll say 1 and 7. The best tongue textures, imho, are DAZ's M3, David, and SP. The International Beauties pack also in my grade "A" textures category. bB

Rediculous or Ridiculous, that is the question! Pay attention everybody; For all of you who spell 'Ridiculous' as 'Rediculous', remember it's: R-I-D-I-C-U-L-O-U-S. Gee, you'd think that the computer literate would've discovered 'spell-check' by now, or even 'webword 3.03' (It's a free program): http://wordweb.info/ordering.html. My pet peeve are those forum members who missuse 'there', when what they mean is either 'their' (Of them or themselves), or 'they're' (They are). The English language is a glorious thing, let's try NOT to muddle it up.
