ILM Relies on E-on Softwares 3D Scenery Solutions For Upcoming Visual Effects!

VUE PROVIDES ADVANCED SCENERY CREATION AND ANIMATION FOR ILM

February 27, 2006. Beaverton, Oregon and San Francisco, California: e-on software and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), today announced that Vue 5 Infinite, e-on software's natural 3D environment solution is currently being used by ILM for the production of some of the special effects in upcoming movie projects.

Industrial Light & Magic, one of the worlds largest visual effects and computer animation companies, chose Vue because it filled a void in their existing tool set.

"E-on products are a great addition to our production tool set and we are planning to expand their use throughout our entire facility. You will probably be seeing a lot of "Vue" in future productions," said Cliff Plumer, CTO of Lucasfilm.

Some of ILMs recent credits include: "Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith", "War of the Worlds", "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", and "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe".

"We're delighted and gratified that ILM relies on Vue for the production of their natural 3D environments. We're also grateful for the quality feedback they have provided, which is proving extremely valuable to our development and technical teams," said Nicholas Phelps, president of e-on software. "The fact that our products are currently being used for upcoming major productions clearly demonstrates that e-on software products are ready for prime time!"

ILM is making use of all of Vues strengths, from the creation of digital footage and scenery setup, animation and lighting, all the way through the rendering of final images that you will see on the big screen.

"Creating a photo-realistic organic environment digitally used to be a big challenge. With Vue, we now have full flexibility to do such work. When asked to change the lighting or camera angle, all we have to do is re-render with a different setting!" said Susumu Yukuhiro, Digital Matte Artist at ILM. "It only took us a few days to learn the program and we were able to create awesome animation right away (including wind swept trees - which was really difficult to achieve before). With Vue in our toolkit, we can push our work to the next level of organic environments!"

I think this is a challenge for e-on. Just get rid of the memory leaks and increase stability. The features of Vue5I are great, but get the rest done. Congrats to e-on!

Wow! Way to go, e-on! Vue 5 I is really a terrific product, but knowing ILM itself uses it, wow, that's a sacrament!

Congrats to e-on, but... Really? Don't get me wrong, I love Vue! But I figured Vue would be used for something like coming up with the geometry of the landscapes but it would then be exported into something like Maya for compositing and rendering - especially with Xstream, they can even use ecosystems. They will definitely gain from feedback from ILM! Cool things just might be ahead for us "little guys"!

Does anyone else think ILM may just buy e-on software. I think this is a possiblilty if the price is right. After all nobody thought Discreet would buy Alias. Stranger things have happened. Whatever happens I hope Vue continues to be affordable for the "little guy's" like me. From what I've seen affordably priced software has a greater following (Poser, Vue for e.g.) than the Maya's etc. so I hope e-on continues to market to those average people who don't own thier own studio. It's people like you and me that have made e-on a success. Congrat's to e-on on a great piece of software!

Good news for e-on! And hopefully good news for us. ILM will probably want a robust 64bit edition ASAP, and I imagine that e-on will work its butt off to keep ILM happy!

Cool! Congrat's to e-on! For me it mean that e-on will continue to provide high end features to the masses! It is now a good point to write you know Vue on your resume;-)

Just read this, maybe they might want a quick setup/Viz tool for figures and scenes that directly import complete with textures, umm what programme could that be. Stranger things have happened.
