Subject: Export with dynamic elements

I am thinking of upgrading to Poser 6 from 4. I would like to know if Poser 6 can be used to export, as a static mesh, any scene with dynamic elements in their deformed state. I need this feature for rendering in other applications since I do not plan on using any of Poser's render modes. I know about the dynamic strand hair not exporting but what about clothing and similar? I wanted to read the manual and avoid this redundant inquiry here but unfortunately e-frontier locked down the download for Poser 6 owners only. I tried the demo put it does not allow for much interaction.

I can not answer on dynamic hair, but yes, dynamic clothing can be exported in whatever state the simulation has placed them in. Also, there are several programs with good render engines that have fairly recently been modified to make importation of complete Poser scenes -- including full animations with dynamics -- almost painless. Carrara would be one of these. I believe Vue is another.

Yes it exports fine as a wavefront OBJ so if you can render an obj in another app your good to go...if you want a sample mesh (clothing only of course) let me know and i'll post you one to test.....Steve

Dynamic hair will not export. Dynamic cloth can be exported in any stage of the simulation.

Vue can import both dynamic cloth and dynamic hair. Dynamic cloth works fine, you can choose to import a single frame or the complete animation.
Dynamic hair import still has some glitches. You can only import the complete simulation, and the renders of dynamic hair do not look very good in Vue.

Mojoworld renders Poser dynamic hair very well. It also imports dynamic cloth AFAIK.

Carrara - I've read glowing reviews, but I haven't played with it yet. Can't say. By the way, you shouldn't ditch the Poser 6 rendering engine. It's way, way beyond Poser 4. Advanced features like image based lighting, ambient occlusion, displacement mapping, raytraced reflections/refractions, fake SSS, radiosity, procedural textures, it's all possible now.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

there is a mode of import in Carrara called "Transport". Dynamic hair DOES move into Carrara under this system, and executes just fine. Transport in Carrara is mostly for hosting Poser scenes for render; you have limited ability to animate, since no morphs move over, etc., Basically, you make all hair sym, posing, animation in Poser, and in Carrara do lighting and render. Dynamic hair definitely works under this workflow. Render times can be very very fast under modest settings, but if you try to achieve close-in realism and fine shadow/skin/hair resolution in Carrara, the rendertimes fall back to Poser times. There is no free lunch. That is my way of agreeing with svdl above....don't disdain the great features of Poser firefly/P6. ::::: Opera :::::
