Subject: Any way to add tattoos, makeup using nodes?

ptrope ( ) posted Thu, 02 March 2006 at 12:06 AM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 11:28 PM

Usual preface: "This may have been covered before, so apologies, but ..." :-D

I could add tattoos and makeup to existing textures using Photoshop, of course, but that would mean creating additional variations with numerous files, and thus, taking up additional HDD space. Is it possible to use a single file (or maybe two: a texture file and an alpha mask) in a P5/P6 node to apply a tattoo or to apply the same makeup over any texture I may be using for a character? I just want to be able to have, say one "Victoria" texture, or one "Shandy" texture, rather than "Victoria" and "Victoria_Makeup" and "Victoria_ Tattoo" and "Victoria_Makeup_Tattoo" and "Shandy_Makeup" and "Shandy_Tattoo," etc. You get the drift, I hope ;-). I'd rather be able to have "Tattoo_001" and "Makeup_001" that I can use on any compatible figure I choose, regardless of the base MAT used.

If anyone even knows a URL for a tutorial that covers this, rather than trying to explain it, that would be great. TIA!

There is a Make up set for V3 at http://www.elemu-project.de/poser/ .You'll find it in the morphs section.
I find this very usefull,'cause my Poser ladys usually don't wear extreme heavy make up,and with this set you can make it as light or heavy as you like in the materialroom.

Awesome! Thanks! :-D

You can also use a blender node, instead of colour math, although this usually requires a mask image of some sort.

i have come across two methods the first is by Fazzel...

Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.

the second is similar to the first but is by Quinlor, nodes with the name Colour_texture are also Image_maps.. hope these methods are what you were looking for, and save you time away from photoshop...

Is there a way to make it apply less intense? That is the problem I have found with these methods. 100 percent opaque tattoos look a little odd. In photoshop you can pump the opacity down and it looks great. Not so well in Poser with my knowledge :) Any ideas?

I also use the Blender node instead of the colour math node, which allows you to alter the intesity of each of the image maps.... will have to do a screen capture and post it here.

not sure who posted this one before, but this method uses the Blender node, and if you add an Image_map of your tattoo in place of the Wave2D node it should do the results you require.
