Subject: How I Make a Body Texture, Specifically my "031101" Texture for Victoria

I have been receiving some e-mails complimenting on my textures and asking how I go about designing these textures. I thought I'd answer it here. The way I go about designing a texture is first I picture what I want in my head. Then I scoured model agency books to find the model that most closely resembled what I want, and hire her for a photo shoot. Since this isn't cheap, I try to consolidate projects into a single shoot. I use a small format camera (which is still much larger than 35mm film). This allows excellent detail capture. For the textures I specifically shoot the face straight on, and capture specific details close-up, such as eyes, eyebrows, lips, and skin. The film transparencies are scanned in at a very high resolution, and then using a few software packages (mostly Photoshop), I asssemble the texture together in many hours, and switch back and forth with Poser making sure each step forward works right. I tweak this and that, but largely depend on the film capture to maintain detail. I also use photos I shot and duplicate the lighting in Poser to make sure the results more closely match the real world. I also use the models photos as a reference, but only for texture look, since once she gets wrapped around Victoria, she of course doesn't look the same. Then once I'm done, I put it up for sale here at Renderosity, and hope to at least recoup a portion of my expenses! I generally call things I create like this something generic, because really it's up to the user of the texture to take it and give it it's real personality. So that's why I use numbers like "031101" to name a texture. For those that have asked and are curious, I've attached a composite of photos from the last shoot I had with this model (Kim), along with an example of the texure "031101." So there, now you know. And now I must kill you.

Thanks Clint. Although it's a lot of time spent, it still is fun too.

Yea - I understand about the time issue. ;) I could tell when working with your product prior to going into the store that there was a lot of time invested in it. Keep up the fantastic work! Clint

Dear intercept789, i had no idea you went to such lengths! VERY impressive. And i'm intensely envious of you--such models! Do you have any intensely closeup renders of your textures to demostrate the high-rez quality? i am not doubting you, i am just genuinely curious before i buy. Thanks in advance-- Nan

Well, actually those pictures are all of the same model, so that's model singular, in that case at least. I will render one out and put it on here. The computer I'm using at the moment isn't very fast, and can't even render out Vicki without crashing. I'll need to switch computers.

Thank you! That's so sweet!

I will try to put more up later, but I can at least show you this one which I had already saved from a previous render session...
