PPP uses bones to make the process of cutting a model into the correct body parts and turning it into a figure easier. It doesn't 'create bones' persay but can use bones from other programs as part of this process. It does not eliminate messing with JP's.
I have heard the 3DS Max plugin is buggy, I've also heard from others that it works fine. I don't have Max myself so you'll have to listed to the others who chime in here.
Hope this helps.
Don't buy the darn PPP until Curious Labs comes out with some patches. "Buggy" is an understatement in terms of how it handles Max from most non-CL sources of info -- and it still doesn't work at all with the current version of Max, only Max 3.x. The latest bug is that parenting a prop to an imported figure causes Max to crash... a pretty major glitch, I'd say. I'd really like to see this product work properly, but they need to get to work on it big time, because they sold it before it was ready, IMHO. --

I've heard that there's some problems with PPP. I'm thinking about getting it for 2 things: 1) Creating bones for models - i.e. clothes for figures. 2) Importing into 3ds for rendering. No animation, just ease of importation. Is PPP stable enough for those two uses? Not going through the Joint Parameter nonsense is worth the PPP price tag for me. Thanks for the advice!
