Subject: Some valuable hints on NOT SELLING YOUR PRODUCT!!!

PXP ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2006 at 6:27 PM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 8:59 PM

I have something to say about merchants who put their products up for sale on Renderosity and give almost NO information about the required items needed or where a buyer is supposed to find these things. The merchants do not provide a link to a product website page which would simplify things for the buyer and make the experience pleasant, instead, they assume that the buyer is a detective who will do the foot work and knows exactly where such and such a thing is to be found which might be true for some items but certainly not for everything. Worse still these merchants will give you a website name without the address part which they assume you must know. This is poor selling and I can tell you that its gauranteed to put the buyer off and get a NO SALE. One final thing, if your going to sell a texture character here you should show some texture mats. Recently I have seen some promising new characters on sale with some interesting looking clothes but not a single character texture mat. Unless these merchants expect the buyer to be a psychic and know exactly how the texture looks without clothes then they are probably going to miss out big time. If this site has adopted a policy that forbids showing body mats then I for one will not be buying characters on a "You Get What You See" basis, not without a money back satisfaction gaurantee I wont. There is a new policy there that forbids showing nudity for certain figures that have been ruled as being "underage". There is also a rule that forbid nudity on the front page for the item. If you scroll down near the bottom of each item, there are usually more links to click on to be taken to more images. As for not providing a link to an item that a texture for... I agree that it would be nice.

Its compulsory for either thumb 3 or now 4 to have front and side and back nude views of v3, sp3, m3 and d3.... the other figures i think fall under the child category.

I dug back through old posts and this is the list of the figures that cannot be nude at all on any promos in the MP.

Aiko
Hiro
Koshini
Ichiro
Krystal
LaRoo
Miki
Mill Kids
Rosy Cheeks Lina
The Girl
Terai Yuki
E J

I suppose that if you are concerned about the quality of a texture before you buy it, you can always send an email asking if they can provide you with a better image. I say email so that there is on breaking of the Renderosity rules by them providing you with a link to a banned nudity image using the Renderosity site.

Last I heard Miki, EJ and Terai Yuki were removed from that list as they do NOT represent underage humans.

Guida ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2006 at 8:27 PM

And i think Aiko was removed too (if she didn't look too young), because i saw some products with naked promo images of her, on the 2nd and/or 3rd promo pages, after that infamous list debate.

Acadia ( ) posted Tue, 07 March 2006 at 8:27 PM

The list I found was months old, so that's quite possible. It would be nice if someone posted an official list for us though.

Yeah I only remember it because the forum was dominated by threads on the subject until they relented on the obviously adult figures and removed them. I'm sure the updated list was posted somewhere and I'm pretty sure a merchant would know where to find that new list. If not, I know Karen knows where to find it if anyone needs the updated list. ;)

Merchants can link direct to the required product page but so much has been said about not linking to other stores (like their store front page) that merchants have gotten confused.

The list of "underage" models has been revised. I don't know if it was made public, but I do assume it's safe to do so. It's not some sort of secret information. :-) Basically, only models that are sold and marketed as children are now considered children. If it's based on or for Laura, Luke, Matt, Maddie, the Millenium Kids (I can't recall if Rosy Cheeks Lina is in the list; someone with a better memory will have to report on that), you can't show them nude. The rest, including Aiko, Miki, and The GIRL are now okay to show nude. And the old "80% of breasts must be covered" thing is gone. Now it's just that in the first promo you have to cover what a normal bikini would cover (for a female; a male obviously doesn't have to wear a bikini top because boy's boobs are fine and dandy). bonni

Thank God! I felt that list was extreme, and I'm glad that the powers that be saw that in the end too.

Why not?
And if not, why can't it be included in the read me file?

Merchants ARE ALLOWED to provide links to another site that brokers AS LONG AS the link goes DIRECTLY to the product that is related to their product. It can't go to the main page for the store, category page ect.

Indeed, we have refrained from purchasing several times because, despite the fact that we liked the textures a lot, the original item for which they were created could not be found here at R. and there was no mentioning in which store it was for sale.

bagoas ( ) posted Wed, 08 March 2006 at 1:20 AM

What would really help is a sort of unique ID tag for items, freeware or merchandise, which is maintained at some central database, similar to e.g. the ISBN number used for books. Would solve confusion on names that change over time, version and language issues, broken links, changes of property etc. Sellers/manufacturers would pay a dollar or so to register an item and get a number by which it can be referred to, linked to the address where it can be obtained. For the store holders it would be better because the name of their competitor is not mentioned on their site, and availability status of required items for add-ons can be checked easily in the central database. just my 5 penny's. When you make your fortune out of this idea remember me. B.

Yup, Numbers... the universal language.
When it is properly programmed, you wouldn't have to see or type them, though.

It's the products I propose to number, not the makers.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Wed, 08 March 2006 at 9:55 PM

Kinda the same thing to me :) Imagine the conversations ... "Oh man, that is an awesome texture! Is it 194632 or 759202?"

Acadia ( ) posted Wed, 08 March 2006 at 10:52 PM

Kind of like buying automobile parts, don't you think?

...where you want to be sure you order the carburetter with the 2 bolt mounting flange for the July 2002 model and not the three bolt mounting flange for the June 2002 model, Yes, exactly. And also may the database provide you with the current addy of the maker, who in the mean while changed hosting providers three times and changed his tradename, yes. Also, it may be very useful to see that there are other and maybe more appropriate textures than 194632 and 759202 to fit your object. You may find the pointer to the shop of that japanese artist you never heard of, and you will be glad you have this number because you may not be able to tell him what you want. Need I go on?

Guida ( ) posted Thu, 09 March 2006 at 3:38 PM

i like the idea, the problem in my opinion would be to get all the hundreds (thousands?) of merchants and their stores, to comply.
