THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: lighting gel question please

Hi all:) I was wondering if anyone happens to know where I can find a lighting gel of leaves please? I would like the image to look like leaf shadows on the ground. Thank you in advance. Moonbow

I can't suggest anywhere particular, but depending on what 2D app you use, there's a good chance you'd find one in one of it's folders (especially if it supports Alpha channels and/or masks).

You usually find things like leaves, window-blinds, stars etc...

I tend to think in a very real world way. If I want a shadow of a tree on the ground, then a put a tree in there with a light behind it.

The gel is just a jpg so why not set up a tree in Bryce and do a render of the leaves against a white sky.

If you mean the dappling of light on a forest's floor, you can use:

The Cloud Plane Trick.
Create a cloud plane.
Open the MatLab, and make the Diffuse color a dark green. Use channel A for the ambient and transparency. Lowclouds2 works good as a procedural to use in Channel A.
Leave the Mat lab and get a side view of your scene.
Raise/lower the Cloud plane until it is just above the camera's view. You want it low enough to cast shadows without poking through the trees in the middle distance.
Now fiddle with it to your hearts content.

or failing that (I haven't really worked all that much with it), there's a 'gel' setting in lights (the 'e' button when you select a light), that looks like you can put a jpeg in there. Give it a shot..

You can also use procedural textures as gels.
