I can't post over at DAZ 'cos I'm banned - so...
Actually, I don't blame you for posting that. I don't agree with the way you did it, but I realize that won't bother you anyway.
My point is; when all is said and done - WOB is IS a 'Bryce' based website, whereas the 'other' website certainly isn't. And, as we're dealing with Bryce here, I have to agree there could and 'should' have been a more open interview given to you regarding Bryce's progress etc.
I personally don't see the point in them cloaking Bryce in a dark veil until release. It makes me wonder, what would DAZ do if the majority of Brycers suddenly stopped posting in the forums - my guess is: PANIC!
I think it's getting pretty thin now, and as I've already said once today, I've given-up waiting for Bryce6 (even though I know I'll see it - someday).
I think the least DAZ could do is "throw us a bone" like you say. I mean it needn't be a complete list, but at least 'something' that says yeah, this is worth waiting for.
The fact that they haven't really done that - creeps me out big-time!
All that being said, perhaps you shouldn't be 'too' hasty in your response. Remember, you 'did' get an interview for WOB from DAZ, which is cool because it shows WOB has some cred' - even if it's not what you wanted to hear.
Finally, I wouldn't take the difference in the amount of openess to heart; I think that's just a case of pot-luck with who you get to interview.

Geez,..........are you sure you went to diplomat school ? I'll bet your professor was Reinhard Heydrich (spelling). No,.....actually, you broached some more than valid subjects, it's probably well known that I have no faith in Daz to do the right thing and bring Bryce out of the stone age(so to speak) and do the right thing by upgrading Bryce and building it into an app that can compete with Vue and Carara and the like. Anyhow,.........nice letter.

Oh yeah, almost forgot:
Them showing interest in the Poser community can only be a good thing (my opinion). It's when they start thinking Bryce can survive without full Poser support - THAT'S when you wanna start to worry 'bout Bryce's future. Len.

Well I asked for it, no really - I mean literally. It was my own doing; I asked to be banned for the sake of their forum :-D
I can't remember which situation it was at the time, but no prizes for guessing it was drac related :-P
I was like MAJORLY pissed-off with him at the time (I mean more than usual), and I sort of threatened them by saying I wouldn't hesitate in using "over-verbals" in their forum if he posted another thing against me.
That was ages ago though - hence, why you've seen no more pumey-posts there for a long time.
I believe I can be un-banned at request though (and probably a little ass-kissing to the DAZ PTB's).

Personally, I've given up waiting for Bryce to improve and am intending to move on soon (my render times seem directly proportional to the square of my poly-counts lately). I think that Bryce is a good renderer, although it is suffering some aging in that regard, but it is a terrible modelling application as it stands now and its animation capabilities are nearly as primitive as those of Wings3D's. I'm not dissing Bryce; it's a great program, but it has aged very badly and I'm not so sure that DAZ will be able to fix that. I wouldn't expect them to be able to do so with a single new version of Bryce, but I don't think that they will be able to do so with any number of versions of Bryce. I'm not even dissing DAZ either, but let's face it: they are a small company whose primary product and emphasis is not Bryce. Can we really expect them to devote the enormous time and effort that would be required to elevate Bryce to a level where it can compete with more popular and respected programs such as Carrara? Personally I don't, and I don't even blame them.
Opting not to have a public beta has to be a mistake. Surely the experience of the 5.5 release has shown how significant issues escaped the scrutiny of the closed beta. I for one will be taking a 'wait and see' for this next release. I'm starting to think now that with other worthy products out there, sinking resources into trying to get Bryce up to par is money and effort that might have been more usefully spent elsewhere, but I'm happy to be proved wrong. As for the interview, it read too much like those cosy marketing pieces.
Read it...commented over there...notice there was no contridiction to anything I said by the "official" spokesperson. At the end of the day it is a business decision. If Daz feel they will make more money off content then Bryce and D/S will never be fully functionally competetive with Vue and Poser. They will play nice and create content that can be used across multiple apps...even those outside their stable. In this case they may well open up things like public Beta testing. If however they believe they CAN beat those other apps AND make more money by taking that approach...then D/S will try to take out Poser and Bryce will become more Vue-esque in it's capabilites and everything will be hush hush. I doubt they will take that tack because the "hobbyist" level of the market hasn't proven sustainable for too many folks...witness all the consolidation over the years. So, from a software marketing standpoint they're probably going to be happy content providers with apps that don't try too hard to beat out higher end stuff...unless they think they can take their gear into the high end market. From what I have seen...I don't think they know yet what they want to be when they grow up.
Hi Drac. I read your piece over on the Daz forum. I can understand the need for keeping things all hush hush. But maybe they have come up with something that all the other apps don't have. Say, I don't know, and this is just pure speculation now, a fully intergrated tetonic plate and gravity simulation module that would allow you to simulate things like continental drift, using the moon, or number of moons to affect tidal patterns. Using tetonic plate and mutiple levels of different ground types to create more varied and realistic mountains, and land masses. The ability to adjust the ph balance to simulate the effects of acid rain of plant and world development? Let's see any other program come up with this!!! David
