Subject: carrara - poser and the "sketch" option

spinners ( ) posted Fri, 10 March 2006 at 1:25 PM · edited Wed, 13 November 2024 at 9:43 PM

In my quest for combining carrara and poser I am exploring the idea of the "models" be in 'sketch format. anybody try that?......importing an animation of poser in sketch format in to carrra? and if so ...does it work?, render fast (an important aspect).....

"sketch" is not an aspect of a charter, it's a render style. Therefore, it cannot come over from Poser to Carrara. I'd love to hear if Carrara has a sketch render format. ::::: Opera :::::

Use non-photorealistic rendering. Adjust the brush type, size, and length accordingly.

Can a person "share" the non-photorealistic rendering settings - since they can be saved. I save settings as a file, then load when I want that specific setting. Is it possible to share these files?

I've been saving render settings with blank scenes as CAR files. Tonight I can post one.

I am trying to save shaders and share shaders. I know how to save shaders in the browser, but not save shaders and share online... Here is a quick shader I want to post: above : ) R

Here is a .cbr shader file I am trying to send. I changed the extension to .jpg, guess it needs to be changed back to .cbr. R

Than worked, had to download it, change the file extension back to .cbr and put it into a folder that I could load in the browser. There is a AnythingGoos bump and color channel in this shader, so beware : ). Is there an easier way to share shaders? Thanks, R

I keep an extra folder of shaders in my documents folder so I can copy them in and out to my desktop real fast. I've toyed with the idea of making a free online library for upload and download, but there's two problems with that. One is coming up with a good sorting or naming convention.. For instance, if i made a website where you could upload ten of your favorite shaders and browse and download 1 thousand other free ones donated by community folks, there would no doubt be 100 of them called "wood". lol okay, so 5 thousand users might be trying to upload "wood" shader and getting rejected because overwrite is turned off... See what I mean? Plus people would be renaming to weird stuff all the time so they wouldn't get blocked and then you'd have a nightmare trying to find what you want. Plus, taking any security concerns out of it, there's no good way to export a shader with a preview of it unless you make your own thumbnail, which isn't hard, but not time efficient either when you want to upload and download stuff quick. I did ask for a shader export button for c6 so the community could have a very simple way to share shaders. I think in theory it's a good idea, but who knows if its really practical. Lastly, you can buy shader cd's and they are nice usually, but Carrara is different than poser and doesn't have or really "need" a content store like poser or daz do. Plug-ins are one thing, but shaders in my mind are a little iffy. I'd rather make a fair one than buy a great one, but that's just me.

I like the idea of a built-in shader export - why not? The programmers can do anything! The one I uploaded worked for me, but anyone else would need Anything Goos to make it work. I even think it will cause a crash if one didn't have AGoos. I think if a person wanted to catalog shaders for other members, they would request shaders with thumbnails via email, and then he/she would have to organize them by hand - setting up a library for download. I agree with you Lacathedral, the problem with upload/download is the naming of files. 20-50 good, well made, and rare shaders beat out 1000 simple, common shaders hands down. I plan to change my web site around this summer. I'd be happy to set up a page for Carrara shaders to share.

I couldn't get Non-Photorealistic rendering to work with poser skin very well in Carrara. The skin mesh is too dense. And thinning the paint strokes globally thins out the hair mesh which is already too thin. So here is a try at sketching a Poser figure using Wireframe Pro.

Very cool. You could save these settings and post them for anyone who also has Wireframe Pro to use? Has anyone tried downloading the ? missing image, shader? Wonder if it works - it worked for me, but I also already had it loaded. R

As far as I can tell, you never added the file to the message. Did you rename it to '.jpg' before browsing to it? I think the upload failed since I see nothing there. Try again now that your file is changed to .jpg.

ominousplay ( ) posted Mon, 13 March 2006 at 6:45 PM

I tried to add it as .jpg. On my browser (Safari) I see a question mark. I rt clicked on the icon and downloaded the file. R
