THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Bryce Underwater Scenes

Fidelity2 ( ) posted Mon, 13 March 2006 at 11:43 AM · edited Sun, 12 January 2025 at 4:42 AM

Dear Friend: Thank you for considering my question/s. I have found out that Bryce is extremly powerful as an application that helps create stunning and amazing realistic 'underwater scenes' as in 'Nemo'. I do not know how to adjust the elements in Bryce 5.0 to create scenes as 'LUAR' by 'wotan' of Renderosity. 'Wotan' also has other scenes as 'Abrolhos' and 'Recife'. They are really superb and perfect. I would like to learn a bit about this. My problems start with having everything too dark underwater in Bryce. When I try to make things brighter, only a small area illuminates incorrectly, leaving the rest completly dark being too bright. 'LUAR' by 'wotan' is what I hope to understand a bit better. Can anyone please tell me a bit about them? Sincerely, Fidelity2.

Change the material of the water you are using. Wotan has some absolutely clear water, so you may want to go with 100% transparency. Then start tweaking your Diffuse and Ambient of the materials that are actually under the water. For your water, you may want to not start with a "water" preset, you may want to start with a clear glass preset, and go from there. AgentSmith

Here's the link so that no one else has to wait FOREVER for Renderosity to search for the image. =) My best suggestion would be to use haze and fog (if you want to reproduce wotan's image directly, you should also make them blue). Then either use volumetrics (slow, slow, slow), or use Photoshop to create the light beams. Looks to me like wotan used low-quality volumetrics to make it look like there were more "beams" than there actually were, and also to reduce the render times. Forget the fish, I'm slapping both pakled and danamo with a wet noodle. =)

@Izy724- AgentSmith has some terrific coral that he made using the Bryce Tree lab. I'd put up the link, but it's busted.:( Maybe he'll be kind enough to repost the settings for you. I think Wotan might have used a few clipmaps(2d pics)for the more intricate fan coral and brittlestars. Mounded coral is pretty easy to make by taking a coral texture off the net and applying it to a heightmap to make "coral" terrains. I used all the same techniques in an undersea pic based on sea life of the Ordovician era.
