I saw this on the list and I must say that I am a bit confused. Do I want this? I want the promised Carrara/Amapi offer. Do I get Amapi for the upgrade price? (b/c I own carrara)..should I wait until the end of the year for the combo pack with both of them built together? Normally Antoine's posts are pretty straight forward but this one confused me a bit.
This is just an announcement for Amapi, no side-grades etc are mentioned. I'd re-register Carrara & see if you get a "special offer". As I recall, Antoine wasn't sure if they would incorporate some of the modelers into C as a plug-in and/or merge the rendering engine & shaders into Amapi as a plug-in. I'd still wait awhile, unless you want to learn a whole new program, UI & spend a few C-notes.
To be honest, i'm a bit disapointed too . I was hoping to have a price for Carrara users, or at least a "concurential price" for all 3D software owners . I'm sure Amapi is worth the 400$, though . Too bad i don't have the money now, but it's my problem . The "Super Carrara", with Amapi modelling functions plugged-in will surely be a cheap way to upgrade Carrara into a powerful modeller . We'll see ... Reading the letter from Antoine on the Eovia website, we can guess that the next move will be for Carrara users . Well, we're all waiting for a patch, aren't we ? litst

Antoine Clappier, the CEO of Eovia has come out of his silence ! For your information, here is his post on the Carrara group at Yahoo : "Dear Dreamers, I have been very quiet during the latest weeks. But there were good reasons for that! Three good reasons to be accurate: - Eovia acquisition by TGS has been completed. - Eovia has an entirely new web site. - Eovia has shipped its first product: Amapi 3D v.6 Let's start with this latest news: 1- Amapi 3D v.6 As many of you already know, Amapi 3D is one of the best modeler available today. It combines very high-end features such as NURBS, subdivision modeling, Dynamic Construction History with a friendly interface. - For more info, check: http://www.eovia.com The v.6 comes with a wealth of new features: height fields, wrappers (to wrap height field on cylinder, etc), bump and un-bump (a 3D iron tool!), generalized extrusions, advanced Dynamic Geometry, extended tessellation, and many more. - For a complete product tour, list of new features, user projects, tutorials, etc, go to: http://www.eovia.com/amapi/index.htm My preferred new feature is the possibility to extrude a face from another one. This feature combined with symmetry and subdivision, let you create complex organic shape in a few minutes. Look at The Spaceship animated example at: http://www.eovia.com/amapi/demo.htm Last but not least, Amapi 3D comes with a Carrara export and 3Space to publish your models online. The combination of the fast rendering, special effects, texture editors and animation of Carrara with the modeling features of Amapi makes one of the most powerful and complete solution on the market. The good news is that Amapi 3D costs a fraction of the competitor's products! Amapi 3D v.6 is available for purchase for $399.00 (the upgrade is $199.00). http://www.eovia.com/store.htm 2- New Eovia.com! With all this news we had to update our web site! In fact, Eovia.com has been entirely recreated. You will find the most complete product descriptions possible: product tour, new feature lists, full feature lists, lives examples, user projects, tutorials, . http://www.eovia.com Important news for the Carrara users: you can now re-register you product with Eovia: http://www.eovia.com/community_register.htm Last news, we have opened a secure and simple to use Yahoo Store to order products online: http://www.eovia.com/store.htm 3- Eovia acquired by TGS: The first benefit is quite obvious: Eovia now develops, markets and distributes Amapi 3D. This means a better integration of the best modeler available in Carrara! By becoming a larger organization, Eovia can now offer free Technical Support both in the US and in Europe by phone and email (see our web site). This also means a strong presence in Europe, larger development teams for Carrara and Amapi, etc. I must say that it is a quite exciting time for the Eovia team and me. A few months after incorporation, we already have one of the best product lines in 3D! Happy rendering to all! Antoine Clappier President and CEO Eovia Corp. www.eovia.com " litst
