Subject: Sknox is a lying thief (flame on!)

Content Advisory! This message contains violence

I tried to handle a Copyright violation of one of my textures silent and civilized last week, but when i check the store to see if the thief had altered his way i found that not only was he still violating my copyright on the original item he had also released a new one that also used my work. As civilized stealth diplomacy doesn't work on this Sknox guy i'll try some public flogging instead. Sknox is a LYING THIVING BASTARD! (ohhh.... i feel better now!) Considering the liberal rules i apply to work i can't see the need for anyone to abuse them, after all you can do what you want with them as long as you don't charge for it, why the #%& didn't he just release the damned textures in the free stuff section! You can get the original full quality textures on my sites at http://home.online.no/~kjellil/ or http://www.fortunecity.com/tatooine/darkknight/369/index.htm And they are FREE! Staale Here's a mail i just sent Renderosity and Sknox The products in question is Wendy and a texture pack -------------- Ste Leth wrote: Sknox have posted images using my texture in renderositys gallery, http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=sknox the image 'Shameless' and 'Quiet Vision' uses my textures unaltered (as far as i can tell) in his next image 'But....Where can i get the T-shirt' he uses an altered version but you can still see the distinct shadows under the eyes and on the edges of the moth and nose and the highlight on the lips and between the lip and nose. Its that distinct look created by the painted in shadows that made me aware that he was selling my textures, not the direct copying of the lips and belly button (its not from an image its hand painted using the spatter airbrush in Painter 5). evidence 1. He have used my texture. 2. The face texture looks like a bleached version of mine. 3. The lips was a direct unaltered copy, admitted by Sknox. 4. The belly button is a direct copy (i don't think he could paint it if his life depended on it) 5. The guy lies, see below. Ask yourself this, if he directly stole the lips what's the chance that he would bothered to paint a direct copy of the belly button from my texture? stealing is much easier, and it takes no talent. Sknox sent me two mails the last time, i live in Norway so i get all your mails in one big heap in the morning, and i quote: 'Please forgive me, but I just now see what's going on. Exactly what part of the texture are you claiming came from your texture specificly. I know my sources and techniques did not include your texture at all, perhaps there is a larger issue here.' As you can see from the last part of that mail he claim 'I know my sources and techniques did not include your texture at all' but faced with the evidence of the direct copy of the lips (i sent him a copy of the mail and image i sent to Tammy) he chose to change the model. This proves beyond any doubt that this sknox guy is a lying bastard. Not only that, he is an idiot, as i used the lips as evidence he alter them but didn't alter the rest of the texture, rather stupid as it wasn't the lips that made me aware of the theft in the first place. Its clear that this guy is untrustworthy and not someone you should do business with. Staale I'm Sending Sknox an unaltered copy of this mail. -------------- Mail from renderosity to me -------------- Jenifer Handley wrote: Ste, I know you have been working with Tammy on this issue, but I've been made aware of the problem. Have you directly contacted sknox to try to resolve? He claims that he painted the belly button using deep paint 3d and a photo of a real belly button as a reference. I've viewed the image you sent for comparison, and agree there are similarities. We have placed the product in pending, but we need to to contact him to try to resolve since you are the copyright holder--not us. Thank you, Jenifer Handley

You are more than generous in offering virtually no restrictions on your work, and I hope you are able to resolve this issue quickly and efficiently. I spent a lot of time modifying some of your textures to create both "Vickybuster" and "Odyssey", but I would have spent far more time (and with far less satisfactory results) if I had not used your textures as a base. Even warez thieves don't try to make money passing off someone else's work as their own. If Sknox and others are indeed trying to sell modified free textures as their own, I hope the administrators here are as quick to ban them as they are the pirates. Sorry, I guess I'm still angry about the Poserworld family becoming pay-membership sites (and yes, I know it's not their fault...). Thank goodness you, the Japanese artists, and a handful of others are still out there for those of us who still enjoy Poser as a casual hobby. SnowS Hoping his pictures are worth 1001 words.

Do a DNS lookup to find the doman registration, contact their ISPs and send them a DMCA notice. Then go to http://www.fbi.goc and follow the links to electronically file a copyright infringement claim. Works like a charm. Trust me- I know :-) Anthony Curious Labs

First i wants to thank you for your fantastic highres-texture "P4NG5V2". That's a really outstanding texture which i have converted for my personal-use many times. The thing with the changeable texture-parts is a perfect idea. And at last i wish that this would turn to a more possitive thing. Thanks again for sharing all your great stuff. SHARKEY

I can't believe that,it is so wrong. Both my hi-res redhead textures were based on yours, and even though I put over 30 hours into them that doesn't make them mine!Thank you for your excellent work and good luck.

The nerve of this guy! Look at this mail i got, look at point 4. He is obviously living in his own private world. Those redheads where really good shredboy, nice of you to share them with everybody here. And Sknox, calling a lying thief a lying thief is not a crime in Norway! I'm living in a part of Norway where i have a cultural heritage that allows me to call people a lot worse things than that, and that without reason. Staale ---------------------- Thanks for the kind words, lible and defamation of character are not a concern to you I see.. 1) The original lip texture was derived from the p4 female bumb map that ships with poser. The displacement of the bump map was amplified and magnified with a simple edge filter applied in photoshop. I changed it NOT out of guilt, but rather I had no intention of entering a legal battle over a frivolous claim. 2) the shadows and texture in the wendy texture were created by combining the p4 bump map with the p4 texture map that ships with poser with varrying levels of transparency and filters. 3)The navel was painted in Deep Paint 3D using a real navel for reference. the shadowing effect is also an effect of deep paint texture lighting. 4)the texture I used in the other renderings was not yours. Its as simple as that. Im sorry but you dont own copyright to the way that light casts shadows. I would like to ask renderosity not to remove the wendy product. If there is a question of copyright infringement it should be dealt with legally. The texture that is part of the wendy product was registered with the US copyright office prior to this allegation.

Looking at the bump map that ships with poser right now and this texture looks nothing like it as he claims. Just saying that. On the other hand ...

Maybee this will clarify something. Picked the mouth from the promo-image, then scaled and rotated. Picked the mouth from the texture, scaled and used a gausian-blur-filter to make it smooth like the promo-image. If this wouldn't be the original-liptexture i would eat a broom. This is really a ignorant person, shame on him. SHARKEY

sknox ( ) posted Fri, 30 March 2001 at 4:02 PM

Let Staale buy the texture and then compare it to his, he will see that wendys texture is not his at all He is basing this assumption on a rendering I will post both textures side by side later this this evening in the forums The combination of textures, bump maps and reflection maps rendered can look completly diferent from a texture alone. To base such an assumption on only a render without making a texture to texture comparison is not right. BTW Wendy has been pulled from the store by renderosity but she is for sale on my own web site, and will be untill I get a court order to remove her. the thing is I KNOW how I made the texture, IT did NOT include Stale's texture in any way, shape or form. The renderosity team may very well have to answer for damages as well, because by playing juge and jury they have crossed the line. Other brokers do not handle issues like this in this manner, it would make them vulnerable to lawsuits, things like liability and punitive damages, and lawyer fees. Just because a render that has been image processed LOOKS LIKE another's texture, does not mean it is a copy of that texture. One must tred lightly here also, because if your assumptions are wrong, you may be LIABLE FOR DAMAGES that your assumptions and jumped to conclusions can cause. You should not make these assumptions unless you can prove it in a court of law beyond reasonable doubt.

just FYI these textures are presented side by side in thier respective resolutions. I hope this can clear things up a bit. More postings on the other forums latter tonight Stale's texture on the left My wendy texture on the right

sknox ( ) posted Fri, 30 March 2001 at 4:50 PM

you can plainly see that my wendy texture is not stale's texture, what you cannot plainly see because of the reduced size is that my texture is not a modifacation of his texture. but upon very close inspection of the full size textures it becomes more clear that it is not copied.
