The next droid in the astromech series: the R4 unit. Like the R2 and R3 units, this model was made by John Jongsma, with extra moving parts and color variations by JHoagland. Like the R2 and R3 units, this R4 unit includes:
  • Rotating head
  • Rotating outer legs
  • Rotating outer and inner feet
  • Extending middle leg
  • Extending outer and middle foot-wheels
  • "Standing" and "moving" pose files
  • Moving upper and lower middle arms
  • Left and right opening door hatches
  • Left extending service arm
  • Right extending service arm with claw No textures are included with this package, but please feel free to make your own. This is a completely stand-alone model: you don't need the R2 or R3 units to use this droid. To see a LOT more renders of the original Lightwave model, please see John Jongsma's site at: http://www.glimpses-essential.com/starwars_remake/SW_Droids.htm And, yes, in the coming days, the other astromechs will also be released as Poser versions: R5, R6, and R7. Note: this is the correct R4 Astromech Droid- the astromech called "Arfour" by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode II and Episode III is actually an R2 unit... R2 units have a round, metallic head while R4 units have the taller, square-ish head.

Thank you.

I've long thought it odd that the later model astromechs look more "primitive" in design than the earlier ones. The R4 and R5 models look boxy and less sophisticated than the R2 or R3 types. Why is that? Is it just an expression of the galactic culture in decline, somehow, as the Empire rises? The episode 4+ spaceships look more primitive than those in episodes 1-3. Hmm. Thank you, indeed! :)

Cage can be an opinionated jerk who posts without thinking.  He apologizes for this.  He's honestly not trying to be a turkeyhead.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

Thanks again, looking forward to the next 3. ;) Any chance of getting that 3PO rigged? Just wishful thinking here. *Hums Imperial March tune*

The c3po figure is probably huge, maybe even too big for poser.

Yeah I figured it probably would be, nvm I'm just glad we've got all these astromechs. o.~

Any chance of getting that 3PO rigged? Just wishful thinking here. Funny you should mention that. :) We have permission to convert this model and it's next on the list after the Astromech droids. However, this version of 3PO may be too polygon-intensive for use in Poser... but we'll see what happens.

Nice, hope everything turns out ok then.

You could try reducing the polygons on the c-3po to make it more useable in poser.

Probably at least run all of the wires through a polygon cruncher. Those would kill Poser instantly.
