Subject: Does anyone have any information about DAZ Victoria 4?

PXP ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 10:54 AM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 4:52 PM

I just wondered if anyone knows anything about the new Victoria 4 and when the release date is scheduled?

Nup. Nobody has anything concrete at all. Just rumour and speculation, like Poser 7.

I can't honestly imagine there being a need for V4. I mean what are they gonna do? Just make more of the same just with EVEN higher polys? Now maybe just maybe if they do something revolutionarily different, (Like apollo max) They might get my buck, but I doubt that will happen.

fetter ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 11:36 AM

They could give her normal-sized boobs, for one thing.

I just hope she bends a little better. Normal-sized boobs? No chance; DAZ always caters to the masses. I have a gut feeling we'll be seeing V4 very soon.

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 12:03 PM

Originally the project was called "V3 Pro." As originally envisioned, it sounded like it would be to V3 what V2 was to V1. Same basic figure, with a lot more morphs. It was supposed to have something called "RealShape" morphs, made with scans of real women.

Sounds like there's been a lot of feature creep, though. Still, I'm betting she will be pretty similar to V3. At least, I hope I don't have to buy all-new textures, etc.

Berserga ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 12:05 PM · edited Fri, 17 March 2006 at 12:06 PM

Ya know half V3's breast morphs are to make them smaller... I just don't get why people complain about the default shape. It's also not like she has GINORMOUS bizarrely wide spaced boobs like Dina.

This is only the middle of March. She might not come out till Boxing Day as some special. After all, Daz did say, "On the Horizon." So try to figure out what Horizon means in Daz Time. LOL.

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 12:17 PM

A lot of people suspect V4 is coming soon because there's very little coming out at DAZ right now. They had that huge sale to distract us the last couple of weeks - gotta keep the dough rolling in - but very few new products. There's been a dearth of new merchandise for awhile now. Obviously, everyone's busy working on something. And we suspect it's V4.

nruddock ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 12:20 PM

Speculation ...
As DAZ have just extended their sale until the 30th of April, I wouldn't expect anything major before close to or after that date.

xen ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 12:22 PM

The CP competitor to V4 is rumored to be released next Tuesday. Might be more interesting than V4....

Nah. I think they were planning that from the beginning. Remember, they said if we bought enough stuff, we could make the new low prices permanent. I suspect they were planning to do that all along. How much you want to bet that on April 30, they will announce that sales are so good they're extending the low prices some more? Just like "temporarily" free Aiko ended up being permanently free.

jonbg1 ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 12:29 PM

I would hope there would be an improvement of knee and leg bending, that would be nice. :)

Tashar59 ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 12:45 PM

I must say, the only thing that bugs me on V3 is when you bend the Butt and Thighs and the Thigh caves in. It's like someone has set an invisable anvil in her lap. If CP's new figure comes out next week, then we might get to see what these new figure standards are. This really will be an intersting year watch.

JHoagland ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 12:53 PM

Let's start the speculation: I would be willing to bet that the base V4 will be free (like V3), but people will have to purchase a $59.99 "body and face morph" set to do anything useful with it. These sets will come with over 1,000 INJ poses so users can shape and morph every single polygon on V4. V4 will have over 200,000 polygons and will use a minimum of five texture maps: head texture, body texture, head bump/ displacement, body bump/ displacement, and eye texture. The base textures will be 6000x6000 pixels in size. Some people will call this overkill, but DAZ will call this "realistic". V4 will be built so that it only works in DAZ Studio. This will be done for two reasons: 1) So DAZ can further promote Studio's features over Poser 6's features. 2) So DAZ can finally start getting away from supporting Poser. V4 will be so popular that people will have no choice but to switch to Studio. After V4 is released, M4 will will be created and it will follow the same development as V4: more polygons, larger textures, more INJ poses, and only works in Studio. Note: these are just my predictions. ;) --John

if they didn't wait for the poser 7 beta to include whatever new joint/bone features P7 incorporates, it may be safe to assume that it's more of the same from Daz. I reckon it's unlikely that daz employees would be recruited to participate in the alpha or beta testing, and of course, there is no possibility that any of the official testers would distribute copies in an unauthorised manner. hence it may be something that will work in D|S and older versions of poser, and it will probably retain the same design problems of the vickie series, although with cosmetic patches, e.g. more polygons in problem areas.

kathym ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 1:03 PM

I just hope that V4 doesn't look like Miki (eww). I don't want to have to buy all new textures and clothes .. sigh Its getting pretty old having to buy all new textures and clothes every time a new character is released .. thats just my opinion. I think I'll wait till they give her away free like they did with V3 & M3. Did CP ever offer up last years version of Apollo for free?

Just enjoying the Vue. :0)

jt411 ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 1:33 PM

Ya' know kathym, Miki might just have a great personality...even if she's uglier than sin :) There's NO WAY V4 will only be compatable with DAZ Studio-that would be business suicide for DAZ. Whether or not she's the best 3D figure around, V4 will undoubtedly become the industry standard right away. Whatever CP is releasing most likely won't go beyond the niche market of TY, Miki, and Maximus lovers. The Victoria line has always been and will always be the Playstation 2 of the 3D hobbyist market. Sure there's better stuff out there, but just look at those sales figures...

I'd just like her with "normal" arms which look like arms and not bent straws.

randym77nailed it. Scanning tech is the future. It's a bit pricey right now but, that'll change. The INJ would weigh less than a meg for the whole body. This means that the mesh could be less than half the size it is too. Anyway, V3 was amazing for its time. V4 will be, too.

SkyeWolf ( ) posted Fri, 17 March 2006 at 2:22 PM

I'd be happy if they gave her hips more suited to a female and if her thighs didn't cave in when you bent them into normal sittingposition. The shoulders could use a little work too....

I only hope she hasn't got like gazillion polys and that they think of something else than the INJ system. It's very time consuming. I don't like the INJ system at all. Allso better bending would be nice, so you could get her to sit down without spending an hour tweaking the pose. If she is V3 subdivided, then I'll probably pass. I feel V3 is too heavy on the system anyway. =/. If V4 is for DS only, well doesn't matter really. I'll just pass. I don't like the UI in DazStudio and don't want to spend time on yet another app that is similliar to poser. I'm allso more curious about this figure CP is working on. I like Jessi and James so I'm waiting impatiently for any news.

For me, I would wish that V4 would be in the same vein of V3, as V2 was for V1 In terms of using the same Texture Map and what-have-you], but different in structure. Would love to see both the shoulders, breasts and hip improvements. Ulike the others, I would hope that that V4 would have all the body/head morphs built into the figure [like V2 was] and not INJ poses. Wishful thinking. jlovesart2

right now she has great proportions if yure a ''cocaine kate '' ,moss fan . hopefully they will fix this . but i doubt it ,

nakamuram ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2006 at 12:31 PM

"Cocaine Kate" has the same waist to hip ratio as Marilyn Monroe. She needs more on the top, though.

lmckenzie ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2006 at 9:02 PM

Marilyn would probably be considered almost chubby today by the ideal and probably thin compared to Rubens' faves. Vicki is Kate Moss though only if you consider America's epidemic of obesity normal. It may be the norm, but hardly normal.

I hope that on the lot she'd be a lot more real: if you bend the arms and legs on V3, they look like straws, also her feet look like hams with tiny socciges attached to them, to make the toes. Like the more recent figures, toes should be subdivided and posable. Look at Jessi and Judi. That's better. Also, she ( V3 ) is kind of shapeless right now... How about a lot more wrinckle morphs? Your face has a lot of wrinckles when you smile or cry, you know...

anyhow, we're august now? How about V4? Is she comming this year or not?

In fact one of the morphs gets rid of her boobs altogether, for people with boob-a-phobia.
You have to really work at it to get boobs on V3 so huge that a real person couldn't even
get up off the floor if they had them.

Paradogma ( ) posted Wed, 02 August 2006 at 10:44 AM · edited Wed, 02 August 2006 at 10:44 AM

I think the only way they can improve things is when they do something completely different.
The Victoria Concept is old, I mean the only thing you can do about that figure right now is updating some flaws, but I wouldn't give a dollar for another new version of a Victoria 3D doll.
It looks to me like they're running out of Ideas and  just renew old stuff.

Don't get me wrong, I like V3 but I prefer working with V2 because it is a waste of time to inject zillions of morphs first before you can actually DO something with her.
Besides, she uses so much space in the pose folder that there is almost no space left for other 3rd party stuff.
Okay, V2 is not as realistic as V3, but I am not into that super-hyper-ultra realistic fashion anyway.

I wouldn't buy V4 anyway if she would be just available for DAZ Studio only. I don't like limitations.

PapaBlueMarlin ( ) posted Wed, 02 August 2006 at 8:18 PM

The rumor from Anton's site is that V4 will be a new mesh with all new features and no planned backwards compatibility (similar to the conversion from V2 to V3).  As much as people are saying that they don't want a new figure, I'm certainly expecting that V4 will be a natural evolution forward.  In addition, the V3 market is so congested.  The introduction of a new DAZ female will bring about a new sense of competition and change some of the balance in the market place...

In clothing do you mean more than a strip of cloth around the chest and a strip of cloth covering the crotch? Seems to be the normal SOP for clothes modeling...ooooh I forgot...the masses want this I apologize.

I believe as others have stated in this thread that V4 will be a great advancement in character creation she will be exciting to see. Of course the average poser user will now need to buy new morph packages, new texture packages, new hair and new clothing and whatever other bells and whistles one will need. Then there is the computer system which will have to be upgraded or a new system bought in order to use her and run Poser 7.

peevee ( ) posted Thu, 03 August 2006 at 5:14 AM

Sorry to ask about that here, but since you're talking about it, is Poser 7 also a rumor, or do we know a little more about that?
