Subject: Just Curious

timefighter ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2006 at 12:46 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 12:15 AM

WEll... I am curious about something. How can an image be ranked #2 in the hot 20 when it has only had 2 comments, but yet recieved 18 votes....???? Granted it had 147 views, but you would think that if it got 18 votes there would atleast be 18 comments..... Just curious....cloned accounts voting for oneself...? Not accusing anyone....just curious....

HOT 20 resets its counts and starts a new voting period.

ok...but that still does not answer my question......

sermel ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2006 at 1:21 AM

does seem unusual

People can vote without leaving a comment. I do it often when an image is better than excellent. I did a check and found that voting is broken right now on Renderosity's server (12:07am PST). So the totals mean nothing right now.

That sticks out like a sore thumb!!! All the other images have a lot of comments....very strange indeed! Not in the same category as the others either in my honest opinion. Someone should be checking into that. :)

Well,

This individual has 2 images in the "HOT 20" and both of them have very few comments, but lots of votes.

SHONNER....

I know that people can vote without leaving a comment, but it just strikes me odd, that with only 2 comments, this image has 18 votes. Sounds like someone is padding the votes with cloned accounts. It has happened in the past where people think they have to have placements and comments to make their work mean something....

Where is this Hot 20 page?

This is highly suspect. I too smell a rat.

rodluc2001 ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2006 at 3:41 PM

i agree about the "smell"... the cloned accounts is probably the correct idea... if it is correct is a tipical newbe and "wanna be artist" behaviour... isn't a terrible thing, only a little bit sad...

The image in question isn't even worth voting for. It's like a bad Bryce II render from 8 years ago.

SHONNER.... That is exactly my point!!!! How could an image like that receive 18 votes, and only 2 comments.....

The Vue "Hot 20" has always been suspect.

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2006 at 7:50 PM

I wasn't able to vote on any images last night. Maybe the server is working now.

Maybe he's just a popular guy.

Peggy_Walters ( ) posted Mon, 20 March 2006 at 2:24 PM

I tend to vote and not leave comments. If an image in the hot 20 is not to my liking, I just ignore it. Not worth getting upset over it...

I suspect a young person that doesn't know any better and needs self-esteem boost. Hey, Western Society encourages people to seek Hero Cookies from external sources.

To all who have read and responded to this thread... My aim here is not to whine, cry, complain, or grip. It is one of pure curiosity... If the image in question was an exceptional piece of work, had 18 votes, and several comments, there would be no questions. Mine is one of how...??? 2 comments....18 votes...not likely unless the individual who posted the image has used cloned accounts to vote for their own work. If this is the case it is not only wrong, but shows a lack of integrity, morals, and appreciation for real artwork. Is it a big deal...not really, but in some ways "YES". However, if this individual feels they need to boost their own self-esteem by voting for themselves...so be it. Those of us who have been in this artist community for a long time know what true art is.... (when the artist is happy and satisfied with their own work, with out faking any applause or fame.)
