there might be something wrong with your system. do you experience any other problems? corrupted downloads or saves? random lockups or crashes? what operating system are you running on? poser crashes on windows 9x often, but on win2k or winXP it should never crash. memtest86 read that article, download the program, burn to a cd and run it according to directions. checking your RAM is something you should do every couple of months anyways.

also there might be an instance of the P6 process already running, after it crashed, and thats why it wont start up again. hit CTRL+ALT+DEL, go to task manager, and see if you have a Poser6.exe (may be P6.exe, not sure) process running. if you see it running, kill it (rightclick, end process) and poser should start up again. still, even if this works, test your memory. everyone should do it - i cant think of anything worse to have in your system than faulty RAM. the test takes 10 min for most users.

Does the prop contain any weird characters in the file name? Poser chokes on some of them.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Was thinking of a Quicktime/Poser condition. Did you recently upgrade your Quicktime? Good luck, Rance

i just figure it out.. i downloaded a couple of props but one of the them everytime i try using it it crashes poser.. but the other ones are fine. also.. how come when i try to make a character tshirt and pants white i cant do it... i want to make a character with white clothing..

Blackhearted ( ) posted Sun, 19 March 2006 at 1:23 PM

? you should be able to do it in the materials manager by changing the object color. keep in mind if there is a colored texture (say, a red tshirt texture) loaded then the object color can be white but the shirt will still render red. you need to modify the clothing texture in an image editor (or create a new one) and load the new one manually. if there is no texture and its just the object color settings, you can change it to whatever you want. make sure there are no complex shader nodes loaded - for example the velvet node will display an object color of white but render red (or whatever color its configured as). if you change your object color settings in the material manager and want to apply it to all of the body parts of the object you can rightclick and select the option (if memory serves its 'apply to all' or something similar). this will save you some time.

Do you double click on the prop and then the next thing you see is your desktop wallpaper? Have you always had this problem or have you been able to use Poser 6 in the past?

I had a problem with clicking on the python script. After I clicked on that the next thing I saw was my desktop. I looked it up at Curious Labs and it seems I need to update my video card driver.

Maybe that's the problem.

The only thing I don't procrastinate is procrastinating. That I do right away.

Sometimes a corrupt PP2 or CR2 crashes Poser to the desktop. readScript statements can also crash Poser. I've had this happen a few times. Fixing up the props/figures with a text editor /CR2 editor helped.
