Subject: V3 bent straw arms, again

mystmaiden ( ) posted Mon, 20 March 2006 at 2:36 AM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 1:20 AM

This came up recently, someone mentioned there was a fix for it in freebies. I just spent the last two hours searching (got some great freebies while I was at it, of course!) but I think I am not searching correctly. I looked at all the 'morph target' category, entered 'arms' 'V3 arms' 'fix' and 'arm fix' in the search engine. If someone would tell me better keywords for the search I'd be a happy camper. Mystmaiden - headed back to freebies

MAV at Runtime DNA has a shoulder adjust morph that can
help with making the upper arm/shoulder area more realistic.
I have not used it myself but I have used his Buttock version, which works quite well for V3 in more extreme leg poses.

www.runtimedna.com
=> New freebies => RDNA Downloads => Search for "shoulder"

The other bit of advice is that V3 seems to work best if you "use limits" for the joints to do most of the posing - sometimes the weird limb shapes come about because a joint is really bent out of shape.

Jovial.

Thank you Jovial. I found the shoulder morph at RDNA and the 'use limits' setting in poser. I'll give them a whirl, maybe it will cure the straw elbows too Mystmaiden

maiden, I/We would all like to see any render that would show improvement to the shoulder, upper arm and inner-elbow bend on V3. Good luck. ::::: Opera :::::

I'll add my two hundreths to operaguy's - I have gotten to the point where I actually try to pose figures just so the inner elbow won't show!

What I find interesting is that I'll look through the galleries and see all sorts of still images that have been postworked but so often they fail to clean up the straw arms. In a still image that's rather easy to do with an image editor.

Bobasuar, I have to confess I would not begin to know how to go about that, my lack of art training maybe.. I did go to rdna and download the shoulder morph thing, but my computer categorically refuses to allow me to simply unzip to the folders where things belong, so I have to do it manually. With the part that goes into the pose folder I was just fine, but for the life of me I could not figure out where to put the rest :( Mystmaiden

Yikes, I hope I didn't come across as if I was singling you (or anyone else for that matter) out. It was just a general observation. That wouldn't be lack of art training so much as limited knowledge in Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or whatever image manipulation software they use for their postwork. Sometimes the readme files will list where everything goes, Also, since we're talking a morph there may not be a specific place it has to go. I believe that when you import morphs you simply navigate to where ever you have it on your computer, select it and import it.

Goodness.. No I didn't think you were singling me out at all I just know my limitations. I'm as new to photoshop as I am to Poser. I've used psp quite a bit but mostly for making graphics, and it was an older version. I had not thought of importing the morphs, in truth, I've been loading things by going to my program, etc and just dropping them where they belong. This one looks as if it needs to go somewhere very specific however. What through me is it has a file, Mav ..then libraries, Victoria 3. Body, etc. ..kind of confusing. Mystmaiden

I just downloaded it to look at. It looks like you simply copy the !Mav folder into the "libraries" folder of your runtime. Don't put it into any of the pre-existing libraries (Camera, Character, Face, etc.). If you're using mustiple runtimes make sure it's in the same runtime that you put the Pose files into. I didn't realize it was one of those injector things (which I've never used). I thought it was just an obj file. Therefore you wouldn't import it. Instead you'd select V3 and then apply the supplied pose to her. The pose would be found in your Pose library in Poser, I believe in a folder called "Mav - V3 INJ-REM"
