Subject: Questions about Anime Doll & Maya Doll

MartinW ( ) posted Mon, 20 March 2006 at 2:24 AM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 4:33 PM

What ever happened to them? They looked so cool but they seem to be fading away, especially in the wake of Aiko 3. Any pointers as to some freebies for them? Also, what was the difference between AD & MD? TIA Martin

Don't have the difference between AD and MD, but the Studio Maya site had a lot of freebies, and links to freebies, but I suspect you've downloaded them. I wonder if a Google search would turn up something.
I had heard that Mr. Maya was not well, but that was a LONG time ago, and if he's still not well, it must be something serious.

The main difference between AD and MD is difference in style of their heads. MD is more realistic, while AD is meant for anime/manga styled renders. They can share their clothes with no problems at all or with minor poking-through (usually around the breasts). Apart of Studio Maya site, just browse through R'osity freestuff. Realmling has posted some nice stuff last month, so MD is not forgotten :)

AD was a version of MD with an even less realistic head IIRC. the main drawback there was that they designed a cartoon head/figure for a piece of software that, after more than 10 years now, still can't do commercially acceptable anime/manga/cartoon renders. and unfortunately there's no early indication that P7 will be able to do 'em, either. MD was very good, but I quit using it once aiko3 came it, as aiko3 is alot prettier and more shapely IMVHO

i still love to use mayadoll, i even bought the anime version. they are both great dolls, and you can't beat the freebies at mayas site. by the way maya doll has been updated a while back to take v3 skin textures! netta

There is a wealth of free items for MayaDoll/Anime Doll. You can find links at StudioMaya's site.

Also try a google search
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=animedoll

And a Mystic Nights Search:
http://mystic-nights.com/directory/index.php

Wardrobe Wizard also supports AnimeDoll/MayaDoll. So you can convert clothing from any figure WW supports to AnimeDoll/MayaDoll.

Renderosity recently purged items that had nudity for figures that were deemed "child" figures. AnimeDoll/MayaDoll was on that list. BUT some of the items were rencently re-added to the store. So if there are still missing items, maybe if you pester the store (and/or the merchants), maybe the AnimeDoll/MayaDoll items will be restored? Mercahnt names I think of off the top of my head who made items are AnimeDoll/MayaDoll are MarkD, ken1171, motura, rwaller, Xena, 3dtrue, MayaX, BatLab, Khrys, Violet71au, insomniaworks, and queequeg.

Thanks everyone I re-loaded MD recently and was surprised at how good a figure she is. As suggested, I've d'loaded everything from Maya's website, so I'll be busy playing now for a while Cheers, Martin

I have always been a big fan of maya doll.
sometimes her hands and neck give me problems.

if you like maya doll drop into my gallery. nearly all of the images were done with maya doll and freebies. (a couple of years old --but i'll be adding more soon!)

other differences are subtle mesh morph modification in hip and left/right collars, as well as reworked "materials" groups for AD as such, there are some clothe specifically designed for AD in mind that doesnt fit perfect 100% with base MD, but the CR2 upgrade for MD provides two magnet poses that morph it back to match AD both MD and AD share some problems, that were never solved sort of slight misplacment in genital area, hands phalanx that are sometime horrible to pose, and the fact those two products were lovely, oen of them free, were decently supported since their start (i mean, for an outsider brand new figure trying to raise an hand for not drowning in a sea of vickies) but Aiko3 was the bell of MD/AD requiem :( still, i like MD for it's versatility and low polygon, fans and Maya made v2/v3 uvmapping as well, some cloth conversions from v2 stuff are availab,e some software exist to convert v3 clothes for her too i think it is a good alternative, still and desserve some support with tenten and an an , mayadoll is one of the few realistic asiate outof the box i ever saw (once saw aJAV movie with a girl that.. OMG... was a near clone of MD :)

Personally, forgive the reopening of a dead thread, Aiko3 isn't the death of the AnimeDoll. AD still gets products released for her from time to time, and I frequently see images using her. Heck, my AnimeDoll products still sell decently considering their age, so she's certainly not dead. Taking it easy, maybe, dead, never! :)

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to answer my question - seems like there is life in AD/MD yet.

FWIW my liking for MD (and Aiko and Miki for that matter) stems from their differentness to everything most other people are doing in the galleries, and especially that you can change their expressions without a flurry of dials such as V3 gets.

As for my own work, though a current 'cashflow problem' means I won't be purchasing anything for the while, I'm working on some MD images which should hit the galleries in the next few days...

Thanks again all...Martin
