Subject: Vue 5 Learning / Tutorial materials...

Is "Getting Started with Vue 5 Infinite" by AsileFX good for for just a lowly "Vue 5 Esprit" user ?

I've googled, looked at the VUE forums at e-on, etc but haven't found what I'm looking for. While I know there are several free tutorial materials available for Vue, but I'd prefer it pre-assembled in one place as much as possible. :)

I don't have VUE 5I, but instead just Esprit (one level above Easel). I 've been trying to find out whether it would be worth it buying it any way ?

I have contacted AsileFX a week ago, but haven't recieved a response yet.

Additionally, I have definitely gotten tired of waiting for whatever Richard Schrand is making or not making.

Does anyone know what has become of his book and then subsequently his video ? Is AsileFX the only "commercial" company that a produce either a book or video for Vue 5 ? FYI, I'm not that interested in anything that deals with prior versions. Thanks in advance! :)

If it does work for VEspirit, the interface will be slightly different. So when you are making your way through the tutorials it may be difficult to follow along exactly because some windows and options will be different due to the version difference.

There are a few people working on full Vue tutorials, but who knows when those will be complete. So, yes, i think AsileFX series is all there is right now.

I have not seen their product myself. Have seen some critique (maybe on Cornucopia 3D?). Have you tried searching the various forums? What i remember of what i've read is that it's competent and thorough, worth the money, but not done by an excellent teacher.

I'm gradually making a series of voice instruction, real-time screen videos, but for Vue 5. The first (and only, so far) is on materials and is free (in 5 big parts) at:

I think the getting started DVD is worth the money. I think about 90% of it will come across fine as far as other versions of Vue goes. I bought a copy of Vue Easel for my daughter - at first I thought it was Vue 5 Infinite - the screens are very similar. I think that is true with Esprit. Does Esprit have procedural terrains? If not, then one of the tutorials will not apply. Also, there is some info on Eco systems that won't apply.

Let me know if you really want to buy a copy - I may be selling my copy.

Yes, Esprit has procedural terrains.

If I was going to buy a copy, I'd save the $5 plus s&h and go for the instant download version anyway. :) If I get it, I may decide to objectively review it as it applies to Easel and Esprit since I have both. If this would be helpful to anyone, let me know.

In the current issue of "3D World" (#75), there are 2 VUE video tutorials on the accompanying CD. One is about materials (for rookies) and the other on Lightwave synchronization. $20 is kinda steep for 1/2 hour of tutorials, but if you were going to buy the mag for the full version of a modelling app on the enclosed CD, then a good deal. 3D World magazine also has some of the VUE tutorials that they featured in past issues available for downloading. http://www.computerarts.co.uk/3dworld

I recently purchased the asilefx video tut. I found that it was a big help for me, even though I only had V5 and a couple of the modules. However, after I watched the videos, I decided to go for V5inf. So be careful, it is awefully tempting! It is a great piece of software.

It is great to hear that some of you are able to use our Vue 5i tutorials for other versions of Vue. I personally can't say whether or not they would work because I've only used Infinite, sounds like it's working out great though. E-on informed me that many Esprit users are learning from the tutorials, so good to here.

I am working on many new Vue tutorials, and I think I may just create an Esprit tutorial.

Cheers,
