Subject: **Last Week in the Galleries**

DJB ( ) posted Mon, 20 March 2006 at 3:53 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 8:04 PM

There is no particular order in ranking as they are picked from beginning to end of week.
There is now a link in the Photo Gallery for easier location.
This also gives us a chance to showcase some of those who have not got the views they deserve.
Selections for Mar13-19/2006

Enjoy

Good selection... although I do not understand why images already in the Hot-20 and having received already a lot of viewers are again selected here (see for example Kimmers'upload : "A Peaceful evening at Bridgeport" which is indeed an excellent picture !) I understood that this was not the aim of this Forum thread... Thanks anyway, Doug, for the work ! :~)

An eclectic selection, i'm really guilty (my bad, never intentional) for only catching perhaps on 5/40 here, so i really appreciate the effort that goes into this.

Thank you for selecting my first photographic entry to my gallery (eagle shot). I'm looking forward to posting more here at Renderosity. I started off with Poser but have now developed more of an interest in photography. Thanks again.

What a wonderful collection, once again. I'm honored to be included. Thank you for all the work of putting this together, Doug.

TomDart ( ) posted Tue, 21 March 2006 at 6:56 AM

If an image is a really good one, artist being known or not, this is a good place to put it. Most of the shots this week (from last week) are ones I missed in surfing the galleries. Sure, I saw a few of them. This feature lets me see images I have missed and for that I am appreciative. To each his/her own! Enjoy the pics..I sure do. I'm just a look'n. : )

L8RDAZE ( ) posted Tue, 21 March 2006 at 10:18 AM

Take the LWitG for what it is...an added feature. A li'l something extra! We should all realize that it is NOT a contest by any means. I can't speak for how Doug or Cyn made/make their choices, but when I was helping out with this as coord, I went through and viewed ALL postings during that weeks time period. I did not use some "secret formula or criteria" when selecting images. There were no Official Photo Forum Guidelines to follow! It was what stood out to me, caught my eye or touched me in someway. Hey, but WHO AM I?, just some guy who's into PHOTOGRAPHY, I have no background in "ART", I'm not a professional Photographer.does this fact make the selections I MADE in past LWitG's any less valuable? Did it SKEW the results? Maybemaybe not? Y'know just because youre a Mod or Coordinator here doesn't make you better or more of an authority on things than anyone else. You can see why not a whole lot of "weight" should be put on the outcome presented here. It all comes down to personal choice in the end. Whether its a forum "team" or one person, doesn't really matter... its still all based on THEIR choice or preference in the long run. Everyone has different views and perspectives which affect the choices we make. Just like the infamous "HOT 20" is not a reflection of the majority of talent here at Render, so too should the LWitG be viewed. Again it iswhat it is!

Well said Joe....well said indeed!!!! Its a flashback, not some kind of scoreboard.

It is to enjoy! And I do! I miss some of the shots of the "masters" and see some here sometimes. I miss the wonderful shots of those I don't know yet and see them here. The combo works. I don't see anyone chosen above another but a random and "juried" selection of images seen by the mods as good enough to share...that is it. My slections would be different but only from my point of view and the number of images I actually got to visit and see. Daunting task and the entire galleries cannot be covered it would seem. I like it. I might get back in it sometime when I take another decent pic!

jocko500 ( ) posted Tue, 21 March 2006 at 8:49 PM

cool. just say yahoo and go from there. Live too short to cry . I know where you comeing from L8RDAZE. Look at Congress and you know most do not know what they doing but they all think they know it all. I happy to see you know what you know and say it too. I with you i no expert and i missed some of these in the gallery so I with TomDart. do not worry mods and coord you all doing a fine job.

Wow - what a HUGE LWitG this turned out to be... We can't all have our cake and eat it... HOT 20 is still to me a popularity contest and LWitG is what shows talented/unusual/general/unique/artistic etc images. Look at the 100 viewed images and look at the 500 viewed images all in one day - which shows that the 100 viewed images still have 400 more views to catch up on... Just a voice in the crowd - I think unless we are paying for the service then we should just sit back a chill with a pill or beer but no coffee please to make us hyper... Again, tx for getting around to the working it all out D and really taking the time! Looking forward to Danob's input next week :D

DJB ( ) posted Wed, 22 March 2006 at 6:11 PM

Joe you made a nice statement. I was not the one who wrote that statement on how images are picked. If you go back to Misha's picks he would sometimes put 2 or 3 from the same photographer in. I never heard anyone complain on his choices. I always thought his idea of a lwig was cool. That is why it got continued. He had a program that arranged thumbs and did the links, but it never worked on my computer. So I do it in PSP. The first couple were fairly plain, but it makes me feel much better presenting all your images in some nicer way than a plain white background. If the thing takes me 6 hours to do with getting the images and linking them fine. It is time well spent. It gives me a chance to spend time commenting on all of your images too. My criteria is to pick the ones I see that stand out, then some from a few of the more unknown members, PLUS a mixture of the regular members who spend time in this forum. You are all the ones who make this place the fun it should be. So like said up there. This is just an added feature. If it gets too confusing, it can just as easily be stoppled. But then I would not feel as good, because i have fun making it. It has also brought some new people into the forums, as they did not even know they existed. About the only criteria that would stop some members from not having an image in this feature is if there is no thumbnail on the gallery. I don't have the time to make all hose up too. Also members who delete their images constantly and they have been on it. I stop picking them, because it creates a broken link, and it is time consuming redoing the whole thing over. Other than that, you people all do fantastic work, and it is nice to see how much many of us have learned since being around here.
